New Stealth vs. Old Stealth

The stealth check is a free action at the end of any move action, subject to all the conditions that exist for making checks (see PH2 or errata). I have seen and expect to continue to see move actions that go no distance (allowed, you can move "up to your speed") and then make a stealth check.

After reading this I dug through the phb1 and can't find where it says what type of action "stealth" skill is. Is it minor or free? If so where are the rules for this?

Thanks!

It's not an action, it's done as part of an action (current rules, as per phb2 errata chapter, are "at the end of a move action")

Of course you CAN use bluff to become hidden for a turn, but that's a different thing entirely.

As for whether the orc knows where you are: if there's only one square you COULD be, assuming no teleport, i would say the orc can attack that square. In the above example you could be anywhere on the other side of the pillar..

Would the Orc's actions be different if he knew you had pie?

By the way, for future reference, something that might help you when posting combat grid examples is the "/code" tag. This puts whatever is in it in a monospaced font, that takes spaces into account, so you can easily make tables and grids. For example:

Code:
. . A . .
. B . . .
. . X X .
. . X X .
. . . . C

Cool, thanks!
