New to D&D

Heck, why not. I see where Dandu is coming from. Someone with the nickname "The Narcissist" is just waiting to get taken down quite a few pegs.

Like when Stevil van Hostle gets bested by Newt Forager...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_the_Dinner_Table

Newt Forager - a small and rather whiny and tricky player who invariably plays evil, mysterious loners with hidden agendas, all of whom are blood related so that he can share in-game information between them. The only child of a career military family, Newt bounced from base to base while he was young- perhaps the reason he has a hard time making friends. He has gravitated to the Black Hands because no other group will let him in (he played once with B.A. and the Knights when Bob was unable to game, and proceeded to try and rob everybody just to load up on treasure and experience for another GM's game he was aiming for). Since joining the Black Hands he has acquired an ongoing hatred of Stevil, mostly due to in-game interpersonal warfare and vendettas. Newt's first appearances with the Black Hands were initially believed to be examples of "newbie-bashing" (mistreatment of players who are new to a game or group, and are thus at a disadvantage) by several KODT readers; however, the creators behind the Knights point out that Newt's anti-social and selfish tendencies both in and out of character put him on an even footing with the Black Hands from the start, and that sooner or later, Newt invariably gives as good as he gets where his fellow players are concerned.

Stevil Van Hostle - also known as Stevil Van Hostile, Evil Stevil or Bitter Stevil, Stevil is a tech-support worker who commutes from Indianapolis to game sessions and is quick and vicious to jump on any grudge in the game (sometimes accompanied by his signature gripe, "I can't believe I drove forty-five frickin' miles for THIS!"). On occasions, he has been known to deliberately trash entire parties and campaigns simply because another player's character won over on him. He has an ongoing grudge against Newt which started when Newt first joined the group; Stevil's character challenged Newt's to "swing at him with a stick" to test his combat prowess. Newt's character knocked out Stevil's with his first blow and it was discovered that Stevil had assumed that a "stick" would be a small twig or similar, whereas the "stick" Newt's character had actually used was a full-length pole resembling a log. (Of course, outside the Black Hands' table Newt merely brags he knocked Stevil out with an ordinary stick, which only serves to push Stevil's buttons harder...)

So The DM Troll Beard gave me like 3 gigs of books so and he said I can make what ever I like for my first campaign.

This group seems entertaining enough for me to stick around a bit.

update on the group:

I took "The Narcissist" down a few pegs by hitting on his hot single mother, and when ever he gets on my nerves I bring her up.

It seems Noobcake has a long list to why his name is such. Example: I was recently told that when he was a date that the girl tried to kiss him and he "accidentally" farted and proceeded to laugh uncontrollably for 20 min.

Manders showed up late to our last D&D meeting wearing a cosplay cat-girl costume. She said that she just left a Cosplay party at her friends house.(No lie)

During this meeting they said that it was time to start making me a nickname.

Troll Beard suggestion: Dice. I asked if that is because I remind him of Andrew "dice" Clay? None of them knew who he was.

The Narcissist suggestion: not worth mentioning cause they where all insults.

Noobcake suggestion: The Speller. None of them knew how to spell M. Night Shyamalan.

Manders suggestion: Virtuoso or The Connoisseur. Apparently I'm the only one who has seen any movies past 1990. Plus the fact I remember the characters names and can quote almost every movie I've seen.

I'm Glad you guys have taken an interest on my interactions with this group. I to can't wait to see where this group takes me.

...and Will this hurt my chances with ladies?

Don't take dating advice from Noobcake and you should be fine.

If you've got access to that many books, feel free to pick our brains about character builds. We have fun with those here.

Your character and its stats (AC Saves, etc) and its special abilities. Nothing slows a game down more than players fiddling about looking for info on their character sheet or asking a DM (for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, ... time) how a rule relating to their character works. Your DM has probaly spent a lot of time preparing for the game. It makes the game far more enjoyable when you do the same. Not the entire rule set -- just your character a specific rules relating to its abilities (feats, spells, etc).

I think the most important thing to remember is, is to not take anything personally. If your DM accidentally kills all of you with a house cat you should take it in stride and not complain about it for months on end. *You'd be surprised at how long people complain about dying, especially when it was their own fault.*

In a similar fashion I think keeping in mind that it IS a game is also quite important.

As per the ladies: Chicks love D&D. Most if not all of my exes have played/do play D&D.
