Oh joy. We don't get enough Lucas-bashing around here.

Easy, man. If you are keeping score (and I know you aren't so it's all good) I am a big Lucas supporter and a lover of all the Star Wars films. That was a little sarcasm.

No, the eyes are somewhat transparent in Star Wars. At the end of the movie, you can see the actor's eyes underneath the helmet during some of the shot in the TIE fighter.

Lighter. Transparent. Same thing. That's what I meant by lighter. The actor has to see through those eyes so of course they are transparent.

So, I think we are in agreement.

I just wanted them to film a short story (expanded universe, IIRC), where C3PO, then a diplomatic droid serving the alderaanian representative, mistook Vader for some new type of guard droid. For that, Vader sent 3PO to work on the mines...



That got me thinking... In Ep. 4, when Luke puts 3PO in an oil bath, the droid goes "Thank the Maker!"... Since it was his maker (Vader) who invaded the ship and forced 3PO and R2 to hop onto the escape pod, that oil bath was indeed caused by his maker! Just puts a whole new perspective over the 3PO/Vader relationship...

The suit needs to have Vader's look, but it doesn't have to be identical.

Right on - that's how I see it. As long as it looks like Vader, and sounds like Vader, I've got no problem with it.

I don't think Lucas would be that egotistical to change one of the major icons (and really the point of the movie) so much that it is not recognizable instantly.

Hey, I'm a Star Wars fan, too, and I knew it was sarcasm (as was my reply). I just get suck of all the "Lucas sucks" crap that clogs the Internet. I don't think the man's perfect; I think he makes the mistake of the thinking that special effects are what makes the movies popular.
But even so, I like what he's done with the prequels. They have a 30's style space opera feel to them which is what he is trying to aim for after all, and they don't seem like totally cheesy space opera. I like that.
Ok, so tPM had a somewhat weak story. Well, it's also the first episode, it's not likely to be the most exciting part of the story. Still, I remember watching and enjoying in the theaters on opening day. It's kind of hard to forget seeing the words crawl to the top of the screen for the first time, and the thrill that went with it. I remember seeing the classic Star Wars elements that Lucas put in it, and enjoying them; the protocal droid greeting Qui-gon and Obi-Wan, the Jawas and Tusken Raiders during the pod race, Jabba's "cameo". And I liked Clones too. Ok, the love story was a bit weak, but there were some very good moments. The speedeer chase on Coruscant. Jango fighting Obi-Wan on Kamino, and later at Geonosis. The moisture farm. And that fight in the areana with all the Jedi at the end.
