Oh, one more thing (not that I can't make it up myself): Did you have any plans for the captured woman?

My main takeaway from these two battles is that it solidified my dislike of the way 5e handles readied-action spells. It's overcomplicated, it enabled some cheesiness in the first battle, but it also prevented actions such as players 'teaming up' to both cast spells on the same round so that at least one would make it past the Dread Counterspell.

No. In my scenario the woman is already dead, a recent sacrifice for Vecna by his vampire spawn servant.
