New version of Mighty Cleaving ability.

I find the Mighty cleaving enchantment rather underwhelming:

Mighty Cleaving

A mighty cleaving weapon allows a wielder with the Cleave feat to make one additional cleave attempt in a round.

Moderate evocation; CL 8th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, divine power; Price +1 bonus.

It's only useful to someone with just the Cleave feat. Seems bizarre and not very useful.

I was thinking of changing it to a cleave upgrade:

If the wielder has no cleave feats then they gain the benefit of Cleave feat.

If the wielder has Cleave then they gain the benefit of Great Cleave feat.

If the wielder has Great Cleave they gain the benefit of Supreme Cleave ability - can take a 5' step between cleaves. Max half move in any given round.

If the wielder has the Supreme Cleave ability then they do an additional 2D6 damage on a cleave attack.

Does this seem a good idea and/or reasonable?

Should it still cost a +1 enchantment?

Hand't seen supreme cleave in action, but thinking about it, I can visualise the problems!

Perhaps drop the supreme cleave part and say if you have great cleave then you add a D6 to the damage of any cleave attack?

My thinking being that +D6 damage is generally better than an elemental enchantment as it isn't subject ot energy resistance... however it only applies to cleave attacks, which cuts down it's usefulness.

Extra damage... the same for large, medium, light, twohanded, whatever weapons? Nah. What about allowing ONE 5ft step before one of the cleave attacks?

Better idea!

Think I'll go with it...

Be interesting to see whether it makes great cleave any more popular... Not a feat I've seen players take without needing it for some Prc requirement or similar.

That depends on the campaign ;)

In my usually humanocentric campaigns, it's worth it. In standard campaigns where the DM usually chooses to let the PCs encounter on big mofo, it's not worth it.
