Also notice all the flying characters, which is refreshingly honest portrayal of the capabilities high-level characters have. Of course, I'm not sure why they're engaging the T-sque so closely when they have the advantage of open ground.

Oh, and is that Tordek scurrying around down on the ground there? What a luddite!

Well the caption on the picture is destroying an Artifact. If you look at the guy near the mouth it looks like he is throwing something in there. So I took it as having to throw the evil artifact down the throat of THE BEAST. Thats just my interreptation of why they would be fighting close.

Uh, look closer Felon - only Mialee is flying. Jozan is hanging on by the Tarrasque's nose and Lidda is climbing the Big T.

That interpretation works for me.

I suspect they didn't just jump up there. Flying 50 feet into the air? No sweat in D&D. Making a Jump check to leap more than 5 feet into the air? Virtually unthinkable in D&D. :)

For the record, if you see the pencil sketch of the MM Tarrasque illustration, the things that are its eyes are actually its ears, and the eyes are just below the horns. I have no idea why that changed in the coloring.

No idea? I think it's pretty safe to say that it was to maintain some sense of proportion. Looking at the massive lower jaw, and then the tiny little area for the nose and eyes, I'd have to wonder: was the penciler staying up late watching Jay Leno when he drew this? Also, if those holes were supposed to be ears, they should have been placed a little higher.
