New Year, New Gear

I haven't gotten into hollow or semi-hollow bodies.

Any particular reason or just haven't found one that appealed?

If you play LOUD, they can feed back more than a solidbody...but they do weigh a lot less, so if you're planning a marathon practice session or a long gig, you'll feel the difference on your shoulders.

Of course, some of the modern ultrathin solidbodies from makers like Parker*, DBZ** and Ibanez are pretty light, too.

* I'd love to own a Fly or Fly Deluxe
** ditto an Imperial

no particular reason. I've never tried one. Once I got a decent electric, accoutic, bass, pedals and amps, I quit shopping around. A lot easier to resist GAS when you aren't looking at them. :)

You, sir, are truly wise.*

Now, d'ja think you could impart some of that wisdom to Hollywood & sports stars? It may be too late to help Brett Favre, but maybe you could prevent others from wandering down that path!

* I, OTOH, plan on using guitars as wallpaper and pedals as carpet.

It's kind of funny, I played for years on an intermediate level 5-piece kit with a good but semi-minimal cymbal set and relied on my tuning skills. Now that I'm not gigging but am in a better financial situation I have a top-of-the line Mapex Saturn 6-piece (just got late last year) with a bigger cymbal set up and a Pintech/Roland e-kit.

The new axe arrived today...and the pictures do NOT do it justice.

The body is slim & curvy, the maple that forms it is nicely flamed. But what surprised me was the fretboard...it's is almost a flamed appearance due to the spalting.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to plug 'er in yet. Tonight was choir practice, and I'm prepping for a trip. I had just enough time to unpack it and figure out the whammy bar had been packed in the outside pouch of the slimline, black Gator case...

Before I replaced it in it's case and checked out the OTHER guitar I ordered from him!

Yep, I bought 2...but before you call me a nutcase, let me explain. The second guitar is a lovely walnut semihollow tobacco burst that is exactly like one of his I own in cherry. This second guitar is NOT for me, though: it was bought to be donated to my Church for an auction or other fundraiser this year.

Since you're donating equipment - *coff * *coff* - how about helping an out of work musician who's down on his luck :)
*ahem* * mi mi mi *

Once I had a railroad and made it run, made it race against time...
Once I had a railroad but now it's done, brother can you spare a
new electronic drumset...
Ok so I'm working on it. ;) Sweet axe BTW - when are you going to start linking sound bites from when you play?
And in other news - I've started writing with my old High School band mates again, one is an IT manager for Southern Illinois University, the other is a riverboat captain; me, I'm an out of work musician, audio engineer and producer... take a note kids, music is NOT all glamor, limos and hot babes (the 80's are truly over - d*** it)....
