Newbie adventure; teaching them the essentials

I need an adventure for 1st level characters that can teach some of my friends how to play. Someting simple, but preferably educational (so it has at least one encounter when a trap in involved, a social situation, a fight etc.)

I know there I have a 1st level adventure on my computer but any thing made (specificly) to teach newbies would be greatly appreciated.

I´m a firm beliver that Sunless Citadel is the best 1 lvl adventure to teach new players how the game is played.

Asmo

I agree with Asmo. I haven't run it, but I've read it not so long ago, and there seem to be a situation that involves the majority of what a newbie player has to see. There's even interaction with (gasp!) evil humanoids!

AR

Is that downloadable? I don't play often enough/consitantly enough to use those sort of things twice, I rarly buy adventures.

And if Sunless Citadel does not treat you right, there is always The Wizard's Amulet. Crucible of Freya and Death In Freeport are also pretty good. Lastly if you want a 3.5 1st level adventure, try Life's Bazaar. I find that it drops into any campaign pretty easily.

Other titles (less introductory):

Lamentation of Thieves (necromancer games)
Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho (goodman games) [Mike Merls, Level 1, 3.0]
Idylls of the Rat King (goodman games) [Level 1-3, 3.0]

Back when 3e came out, a friend of mine introduced me to the new edition with The Burning Plague. Now, I must say that it was NOT an introduction to RPG, nor to D&D. I had been playing for almost 20 years before hand. However, I found that adventure to be very intriguing. So much so, in fact, that it brought me back into the D&D fold.

That said, I think that many published adventures would fit the bill for your purposes. However, you later specified that you wanted it to be downloadable. In that case, I think your two best choices are the aforementioned The Burning Plague from the WoTC website and The Wizard's Amulet.

Good luck,

Yeah, I'm looking for almost the same thing... I have an Old School D&Dplayer I DMed for back in high school, a total newbie, and a newbie with a few games to his name.... Catch is we are starting at 10th level... Going to start "Bad Moon Waning" from the WotC free adventure section...

Any suggestions?

I also have to throw in a vote for "The Burning Plague". It is a little light on RP encounters (one fight can be solved by RP if the players want) but other than that it is an excellent way to introduce people to the basics.

Eye Tyrant: I suggest you take the first session and give you players some pre-generated iconics and run them through a quick 1st level dungeon. It should only take one session and it will help a lot on their leaning curve with regards to their 10 level characters.
