[news] Chainmail is back

I am a decent painter and will love thiese pre-painted minis. I love to paint, but don't have enough time to kick out more than one mini a month. I paint for myself because I enjoy it, but it will be nice to not have to paint things like gnolls and orcs.

I also agree that the early Mageknight stuff stunk, but the battletech stuff looks pretty good.

I think it is easier to mass produce robots (ala Battletech) then humanoids that look good. I'd be interested in seeing what the wizard figure look like.

HeroClix is to MageKnight as Pokemon is to Magic. But sooner or later, HeroClix will probably slow down, unless they continue to reinvent the game, maybe do a mass-combat Skrull-Kree war.

Heroclix has an advantage that Mage Knight & Mechwarrior: Dark Age don't have. It has a built in audience that doesn't consist of gamers. Comic books fans collect them & either that's the only "war game" they play, or they don't even play it at all.

For those complaining about the paint jobs on the Mage Knight figures, don't judge what they are doing now by older figures you might have seen. The painting has jumped light years since the first set. So has the sculpting.

are mage knight and hero clicks randomly bought? or do you know what you're getting? how about the new battletech?

are these games the new magic?

completely random You have no idea what you are getting.

Random. Also, fairly badly painted. This has been my big turn-off from Mage Knight: I don't want something random, I want to get what I want to get! But I'd probably never use them to actually play Mage Knight, which is probably why I feel the way I do about them: I've always just liked minis for their own sake. But with that perspective, I want to get exactly what I want to get, and nothing else.

paint jobs on Mage Knight suck. Very good and getting better on Hero Clix. Too early to say on the Battlemechs. I have but a few. Can't say from that that. Crimson skys looks good for a paint job.

Great... The mini quality is going to get even worse, and the few decent ones you won't even be able to find because they'll be "rare" or limited edition.

Give me Reaper any day...

Aye, the only winner may be Reaper. Though the cost is questionable- Confrontation figures are really nice however. They are becoming more availiable in US even as we speak.

The commons appear to go for about a buck and I have never seen one for more than $20. (Of course, I have never looked at them with buying in ind, so they may get more expensive and I am simply ignorant on the matter.)

Funny thing is, I remember being told by some expert that plastic miniatures simply were not cost effective against pewter. Now pre-painted plastic seems to be the coming thing (maybe). I wonder what changed? Will we be able to buy more plastic minis for the same price in the near future?

"Uniques of Hero Clix go for 10-35 dollars. LE's go for 10 to 110 dollars. Non uniques go for .50 to 7-8 dollars apiece.

Plastic molding is getting cheaper and cheaper as there is more demand for it. Just don't leave them in direct sunlight or in your car during the hottest days of summer.

Indeed, some of the larger figures are available & not random. Most of the Dragons are excellent & the Hill Giant looks good (as long as you don't mind Dwarves with guns on his shoulders).

They've also released a set "the Painter's Edition." It's the base set of figures, unpainted & not attached to the dials.

So true...the giant has dwarves for friends...oh my

I've got a bunch of these now. Like very much! Some of their undead will be great additions to my current undead army.

Grrr.

Anyone tell WOTC that D&D is not MtG, and we don't want "collectible" (random lot assignment)?

Painting the mini is the best part.

As far as WoTC ...they don't have a say. Does Hasbro know?

Come to think of it...this may be why the plastic. Hasbro does a lot with small piece plastics already. Ought to keep the prices down by that alone.

Z.: Point taken.

In fact, if the mass-combat system integrates well with D&D, then they have a real winner. :)

Cheers!

THIS is what will make or break the new line in my mind. Then a close second will be the quality of the mini's. If the paint is bad, you can paint over them. If the original figure sucks...it will suck
