[News] Role-player decapitated (drug addicts arrested)

Re: Yes, "They" would...

If by "they" you mean the mainstream American media, I guarantee it would happen. You think gamers have a hard time with the media. Try reading the NYT or the Boston Globe for information about Christianity. :)

Well, as long as LARPs are blamed, not table-top role-playing, I don't have a problem with any of the bad publicity!;)

Seriously, I doubt that this incident will revive the anti-RPG sentiment of the 80's. Especially with fantasy going so mainstream all the sudden. The witch hunters have moved on to new targets, video games and rap music.

Two arrested

According to the local newspaper Hallandsposten two men have been arrested. They have police records, and have supposedly have admitted to something. The police will be holding a press conference later tonight, so I guess some answers might be forthcoming.

How widely has this been reported outside Sweden? The British press have got their own home-grown dismemberment murder story to play with at the moment (remind me to stay out of Camden - it seems to be a popular pastime round there), so nothing here. Has it been picked up in the States at all?

It's been in the TV news on the two major TV stations in Denmark. It's a pretty unusual story for a scandinavian country. We don't have many bizarre murders!

Although I havn't heard anymore info today on TV, maybe when they have a supect...

It has ??? Well, just goes to show I do not watch that much TV...

The two arrested didn't know the victim

At least according to what Hallandsposten reports about what the police said. So, it doesn't seem that rpg's (or larps) were involved in any way. Wonder if the Swedish tabloids (e.g. Expressen) will put *that* on their front page in huge type? ("POLICE SAY: ROLEPLAYING NOT RELATED TO MURDER!") Naah. I guess not.

Well, it would make sense to me that the newspapers would be more interested in what IS responsible for the murder than not, though I'm sure roleplaying will still get honorable mention.

PS: Yeah, East St. Louis is pretty rough. Cahokia's not Malibu itself. I've actually seen worse, though. Cairo Illinois is quite rough.

A 46 year old admits: "I flipped out... I put a knife in him."

The 46 year old and his 28 year old friend then proceeded to dismember the victim in the 46 year old's apartment.

The motive could have been that the murderer became irate by the victim's black clothing and white make up.

The 46 year old and his 28 year old accomplice are rumored to be drug addicts. Perhaps the victim was in the murderer's vicintity to buy drugs. A friend of the victim's says that the victim has been known to smoke hashhish.

The above is taken from
Expressen

I guess the police thought the drug-lead was more interesting then the RPG-lead. What do you think?

Disliking someone's make up and/or clothing is such a good reason to dismember them. Total disconnect from reality here.

Well, more likely anyway.
