[News] Role-player decapitated (drug addicts arrested)

this reminds me...

Remember that whole Judas Priest trial, where one or both families of two boys that killed themselves said it was the music? I did a report on that in High School and here's what I learned:

2 teen boys spend an afternoon, in one of the guy's house where he lives with his family, drinking at least one case of beer and smoking pot while listening to Judas Priest. One of them gets the shotgun he has out in his room (it might have been a sawed off and I believe it was leaning next to his dresser... I did the report over 10 years ago)... in a house that his siblings and a young niece or nephew also live in, and they both go to the local playground to blow their heads off. One suceeds, but the other lives. While recovering, he mentions that the music told him to do it and so his family proceeds to sue Judas Priest, who were found not responsible.
So never mind the beer, the pot, or the extremely easy access to a weapon... it was the music, or the RPG, or the video game.

Basically, I think people like to blame what they don't understand, because they feel guilt about whatever bad thing happened.

People tend to never blame themselves, it was always some outside force that wes responsible for it all. I remember the Judas Priest trial all to well. TV and video games tend to shoulder alot of blame for stuff too, It's never the parents fault though.

RPG's are used as a scapegoat just like movies, music, videogames, etc.

"RPG's are evil!"

"Didn't your parents say that about Elvis?"

It's a tragic thing when people have to deal with their anger, frustration, and pain by blaming a nameless, faceless entity with the money to support emotional counseling. Most people (when it got to the point of blaming movies) realized that it wasn't the movies, it was the kids themselves.

RPG's kill people the same way the Doom videogame or rap music kills people -- our hobbies attract those likely to kill people anyway (along with the vast majority of us who wouldn't). The sorry truth is, human beings are baised. I can't really fault the news organization for doing something I wouldn't....I'd like to think I'm unbaised, but I'm positive I'm not....if when I hear a news story about a soccer riot, I go "Those crazy sports fans...the overt testosterone of the place causes fatalities, so they are dangerous," I can't exactly fault the press for saying "Those crazy roleplayers. The atomsphere and mood of death surroundig the games causes fatalities, so they are dangerous."

I guess what I'm saying is that someone's going to be bigoted against...In most cases, quite unfairly. Hell, look at all the flack that the judge who protested the "Under God" clause got...poor "Leftist liberal hippie-terrorist judge"...:(

Well, the Headline says:

'The police doubts any connection with rpg's.'

That pretty much says it all.

I you want me to I could translate it all.

In Expressen you can read this interesting tidbit:

Marcus Norén har i flera år vampyrlajvat. De senaste åren hade han tre olika karaktärer:

Tony Blanchard, en kasino- och nattklubbsägare med maffiakontakter, som tillhörde klanen Brujha, i Washington D.C by night.

Karl, polis av vampyrklanen Brujha i spelet Berlin by night.

Reginald Seymour, psykolog i Houston by night. Tillhörde Nosferatu - alltså Dracula.
(My translation):

Marcus Norén have for several years played Vampire live. In the recent years he's had the following characters:

Tony Blanchard, a casino and nightclub owner with mob connections, belonging to the clan Brujha [sic], in Washington DC by Night.

Karl, a police officer of the vampire clan Brujha in the game Berlin by Night.

Reginald Seymour, a psychologist in Houston by Night. Belonged to Nosferatu - hence Dracula.

Ooh. The headline was of course:

Marcus sista roll: Dracula i vampyrspelet

Marcus' last part: Dracula in the vampire game

The article ends with the following:

Seymore was a so called Nosferatu- that is Dracula- the most fearsome clan among the vampires.

That'd be interesting, but you're right, the headline is pretty self-explanatory. I love that there are people from all over who post here, and can answer that kind of question. Thanks!
