NG vs. N: Neutral Good Victorious!

Gansk said:
OOC: It says that in areas of bare earth, roots and rootlets turn into spikes. Then it lists the terrains that the spell can't be applied to, and dirt is not one of them.
7 minutes too late, Gansk. Now, go to the other arenas and start rolling. ;)

Autumn watches the thing fly in with resolve on her wooden face, knowing that eventually she would have to face a dragon. She taps Dino with the wand to apply some healing, and

Entourage:

Bertha (5N80E): Hold and wait for something it can do.
Boris (15N80E): Hold and wait for something it can do.
Aria (10N90E40Z): Fly to 30N80E40Z and Zap the dragon.

(Summoning: Bertha appeared on 561, Boris on 560, Aria on 559)

Dino is healed up to 312 HP.

Dino does not move from 25N80E, because he has no quarrel with the dragon. It has harmed neither him nor his good friend Autumn. Autumn will have to move somewhere else, anywhere from 35-45N75E.

Aria zaps the dragon for 10 points of electrical damage.

Round 565

The dragon starts hovering, then breathes a wave of crushing force. Autumn (Ref save 12), Dino (Ref save 24), and Greyshadow (Ref save 17) all take 68 points of force damage. Autumn is dead and Greyshadow is dying. Dino has 244 HP remaining.

Now Dino has a reason to attack the dragon. He lumbers over to 40N80E and smacks the dragon with his tail (rolled 44) for 33-20=13 points of damage. The dragon is not stunned thanks to his Great Fortitude feat (rolled 29 Fort save), but is down to 327 HP.

Next in round 565 for Neutral Good is a cloud giant (Monster Manual).

OOC: Yoikes!! (Yeah, I thought that "Very Old" was going to mean trouble.)

Claude the cloud giant roars in from the NG side, charging down on the dragon hovering in mid-arena. Eschewing the morningstar, Claude reaches up with his bare hands to grab the dragon and drag it down to the earth.

(Charging grapple attack, Jump if necessary to get that extra 5" or so to reach the dragon. Yes, this means I expect to take an AoO, but if that dragon gets any higher then the rocks just aren't going to do the trick.)

I'll leave the two bears on the sidelines, since I don't expect they can do much and they don't have any allegiance to the giant or dino. Should we just assume they stampede out of the arena?

Oops, I forgot Aria. Since the dragon isn't paying her too much mind, go up higher and zap him again.

Aria: MEA from 30N80E40Z to 50N80E70Z, Std: Zap attack!

The bears will attack Autumn's opponents when in range.

Aria zaps the dragon for 8 points of electrical damage. The dragon has 319 HP remaining.

The dragon rebuffs Claude's attempt, biting him hard (natural 20, 53 to confirm crit) for 46 points of damage. Claude has 132 HP remaining.

Round 566

The dragon bobs and weaves, then disappears.

Now that the mean dragon is gone, Dino now goes with his original orders, which are to attack Neutral Good. Dino slams Claude with his tail (rolled 44) for 33 points of damage. Claude is not stunned (33 Fort save), but is knocked down (17 Ref save), landing prone at 60N60E. Claude has 99 HP remaining.

The bears and Aria wait for Autumn's enemy to show up.

OOC: Just so everybody is clear on this, the only reason Dino has switched to Claude is because the dragon has disappeared. Once the dragon reappears, Dino will switch back to attack the creature that hurt Autumn.

If the dragon loses and a new Neutral creature appears, Dino will attack it. If that creature is not accessible to Dino through flight or burrowing, then Dino will get bored and attack Claude or any new NG creature that enters. Dino will not attack Autumn's entourage because they are associated with Autumn.

OOC: Got it. That makes sense to me.

Claude stands and retreats to 60N20E (assuming he doesn't get knocked down by the AoO as he stands).

Dino whacks Claude with his tail as Claude gets up, dealing 30 points of damage. Claude is stunned by the impact (Fort save 26).

Round 567

Dino stomps over to 50N75E and stomps the ground next to Claude (natural 1).

Round 568: Dino stomps Claude for 34 points of damage.
Round 569: Dino stomps Claude for 48 points of damage. Claude is dead.

Dino is at 50N75E, and has 244 HP remaining.

Next in round 569 for Neutral Good is a moon dog (Book of Exalted Deeds). The battle is back to you, Gansk.

OOC: That charm is really going to backfire bigtime...

Lunas slips in to the arena and vanishes.

(MEA: to 115N45E, SLA Ethereal Jaunt)

OOC: I know, that's probably where the dragon is, but looking at Lunas' skills, I don't think he has reason to think the dragon is on the ethereal, unless there is a big placard in the green room reading "Now fighting: Very Old Ethereal Dragon and Apatasaur vs. ..."

Lunas does know that the dragon is in the Ethereal Plane, because Lunas can see it at 55N55E60Z with see invisibility (always active) before he even uses ethereal jaunt. Did Lunas want to change any of his move?

Ho ho! Good point. He'll use Greater Invisibility instead then.
thanks.

So, is Dino now no longer considered a "main combatant" by the rules of the tourney due to his stint on the NG side?
