Ninja question - Ghost step

I'm just picturing the ninja sword/blowgun/shuriken crossguard/underwater breathing tube/scaling ladder in-a-pinch... with 2 hidden throwing knives concealed in the guard.

:D

It just give the ninja an easy way to do their sneak attack, rogues have flank ninjas have these. You are also assuming the ninja is hitting all the time, which might noit be the case especially on the second attack.

Oh, sure. I'm all for them having an easy way to sneak attack since flanking is denied them; it's just full attacking for SS and then remaining invisible when the enemy tries to counter-attack that I have a problem with.

And no, they might not hit on the second attack, but any ninja worth his salt is going to attack when his prey is a) sleeping, b) unarmored, c) feeling safe, and probably a combination of the three. So that AC is going to be pretty bloody low, and the second attack should hit.

And I was being lazy. Thbbbbt :p

:)

Let's say you were playing a Ninja and got grappled. Could you Ghost Step (Invis), draw a light weapon, and stab the guy grappling you (thus getting Sudden Strike damage)? Also, if they continue to grapple you, do they get any penalities?

Could you Ghost Step (Invis),
Yep.

draw a light weapon,
You can draw a Tiny weapon; no drawing Short Swords. But the rules already allow for this in a grapple.

and stab the guy grappling you
Similarly, you could already do this. Being invisible doesn't make you not able to do it.

(thus getting Sudden Strike damage)?
You're fully concealed, so yeah, I would deny his Dex to AC. Unless he had Blind-Fight, of course.

Also, if they continue to grapple you, do they get any penalities?
I'd apply a 50% miss chance, so any "successful" grapple check would have to then roll d% and get above 50% for it to actually be successful.

I definitely don't think it's overpowered as I read it. I just wanted to make sure that I'm getting it right.

The only reason I asked this is because when in a grapple, you normally lose Dex against everyone that is NOT involved in the grapple. But being invis would make the opposing grappler lose their dex bonus towards you. Just wanted to make sure that was correct.

Wow, I didn't know that feat did this. I would imagine uncanny dodge would also work.

I toss my opinion out there as well. I don't think it's too overpowered. Rogues can do this kind of sneak attack with a flank as long as they have a buddy an unlimited number of times, which can also be a full attack. Ghost step just allows the ninja to get off the sudden strike damage by him/herself, but only a limited number of times per day. (I can see the bumper stickers now, "Ninja's do it by themselves!" )

I'd rather use the ghost step to get past guards or whomever than use it in combat. That's a good way to burn through that ability quickly though. Of course, I'm speaking as someone who's never played a ninja.

Yep. Unless the Ninja pins you, when I would cite the UD rules of "Held immobile".

Getting the hit in isn't problematic. It's staying Invisible through the enemy's turn after having whalloped him that's the real snag.

You can stay invisible, but will blink visible shortly in the time of the beginning of your turn and the use of the swift action to turn invisible again.
