Picture as to how the full controller will look for the cross-platform/3rd party/older-gen games:

I've always had a fondness for Nintendo, having started with the NES and sticking by them during the various console wars. This past generation, I ended up going with the Xbox, despite all that. The Gamecube, up to this very moment, has a total of three games I wanted to play. I ended up buying a Cube when they dropped to $99, and it still feels like a bit of a waste.

Going into the next gen, I figured the same would happen; get a 360 early, buy a Revolution when it became very cheap. After seeing this new controller, I'm not sure I even want to get one then. I have absolutely no desire to hook up sensors around my TV and wave a remote at the screen, and even the "classic controller" cradle design uses the sensors still.

The nostalgic affection I have for Nintendo hasn't diminished, but they're moving away from what I want in gaming.

As to the picture: that's just something IGN photoshopped up to try to show what the shell might look like. At first I missed the paragraph after the picture too :)

Nintendo has not yet released official imagery of what the controller shell might look like. However, we've created a mock-up (above) based on what we know of its functionality. The real controller shell is likely to connect to the free-hand-style pointer in a very similar fashion. Please note that we realize our model is not entirely to scale, but this is the best we could do on short notice.

Good, that thing looks... strange.

I'm hoping the older controlers will still be compatable.

I've gotten more life from the gamecube than I thought I would have when I baught it. I origionaly got it for Metroid Prime and Zelda, and have since played and enjoyed large collection of other games. However, it's the only consol I own, and my computer is setup for gaming.

Whoa, loads of missing information in this thread.

No, it won't. As CronoDekar noted, that's a completely made up mock-up from IGN as a bit of wild speculation.

Actualy, I've seen no indication that it's a less powerful machine, just designed differently.
Then you haven't been reading the news reports quite far enough yet.

Nintendo hasn't come out and said so,
Actually, yes, they have. IGN has recorded statements from the Japanese executives saying just that. (The U.S. executive, not surprisingly, refuse to comment on the matter.)

Considering that the Gamecube supports progressive scan games I would be shocked if the Revolution didn't support games that run in 480p, 720p & 1080i.
Then prepare to be shocked! Nintendo has already said in interviews that they are not interested in supporting HD, and that 480p is the best they will support.

(Of course, none of this is set in stone, as the hardware [not even called Revolution anymore] is still very very early in the design stages.)

I'm an old Nintendo junkie from Back In The Day as well, and I also went XBox at first. But I did pick up a Cube as well so I could play WindWaker--and have found several more games that I adore. Today, I'm picking up the Cube more than the XBox.

Games like Mario Sunshine, Metroid, Super Smash, Resident Evil 4 make it the best $129 I ever spent.

And that was a mockup of the controller? Oh.
