No buzz for the 2011 Campaign Setting?

I wonder if there will be a new setting. The upcoming publication of Essentials and things like Heroes of Shadow suggests that they're changing up how they are doing things. There was an interview or column a while back (can't find it for the life of me) where one of the designers noted that the one campaign per year release was something they were trying, but that they might revisit it in the future. If there was ever a year for evaluating the release schedule and doing something different, 2010/2011 seems to be it.

I could easily see them doing a bunch of little mini updates in the trade paperback format for certain classic campaign settings rather then one big campaign with separate hardcover books.

I think that aside from maybe Dragonlance they're hitting the point of diminishing returns for campaigns. Sure, a few people would be REALLY psyched about Mystara but the vast majority of gamers would shrug and ignore it.

Nentir Vale isn't new, but they may want to give us a break from too many settings too fast.

With the "publish and forget" model of settings, though, I don't feel that should be too big of a concern.

We've seen significant amounts of PS and SJ integrated into the "core setting" already, so who knows whether they'll get their own books eventually. I'd give that a strong possible, not necessarily probable though.

I do admit to being awfully curious, though!

The existence of the Nentir Vale gazeteer implies to me that the Core World is not going to be the 'new' setting. I'd argue it's practically a setting already and that will be cemented once Nentir Vale gets published (and I assume Elsir Vale later).

But with the publish and forget model, I don't see why they couldn't do say, two settings in a year.

If a new red box is possible, an essentialized Greyhawk is possible.

What i want, however, is a whole city-based campaign "setting". Lankhmar / Sigil / whatever. Or Dragonlance, but i´ll believe Cam Banks here who thinks 2011 is the earliest date possible for this.

I think we'll eventually see Greyhawk and Dragonlance, but not this year (though I may be totally wrong, we'll see next weekend, and if I was going to guess which one would go first, I'd go with Greyhawk). I think beyond the Nentir Vale and other PoL setting elements (please, oh please, release the Feywild and Shadowfell books next year), we'll see some more genre-related settings like Gamma World. Perhaps, OA will see a source book with DS type themes?

Well, they do have some hardcovers on slate after Essentials comes out, and they have stated that they will return to the 'old way' of releasing stuff including hardcovers when they finish Essentials.

Doesn't mean that you're not right, but I'd be really disappointed with no new setting.

I know the one you're talking about, but I think that was in reference to releasing more products that were campaign setting specific.

Wouldn't have a problem with that either.

Yeah, I know. But Mystara is the one I grew up with.

Instant sale from me if they do it. Too bad, they just don't cater to me. :.-(

But still, with the current model, as long as the books were done well (ie not like the 4e Forgotten Realms), I'd pick up the Campaign Setting books even for settings that I don't plan on using.

Personally, I'd be very disappointed if that was the case. I have no interest in the PoL world.

What we want, and what we think might happen need not to be the same thing. That said, I do wish they would make PoLands into a real setting. But I am fairly easy to please, so unless they make Spelljammer or Dragonlance, I think I might be tempted to buy it.

Oh, I understand. I just don't want the PoL gazateers to be at the cost of losing the annual campaign setting.
