No buzz for the 2011 Campaign Setting?

I second (or third?) that they will hopefully use one of the ones from the campaign search that netted Eberron. I believe they bought the rights for all the finalists (correct?) and Eberron is fantastic, I hope that one of the others were just under Eberron in awesome-ness to develop.

As far as I know, yes, they did buy the rights to the other two settings.

That's why Rich Berlew can't actually talk about what was in his.

The old Basic D&D Gazetteers were some of my favorite all time RPG products... So if the new PoL gazetteers are anywhere near as cool- I will gladly take no new setting in favor of these! :D

I don't see them being anywhere near as cool. First, there's nostalgia, but more importantly, each of the D&D Gazetteers were fairly dramatically different from each other (plus they added in new rule systems).

IMO, they may have bought those settings, but I don't think they've sat on them for 5-6 years. Their best ideas have probably already been re-purposed; for example, the Aerenal elves were originally from Rich Burlew's setting.

I wasn't aware of that. Yes, this would significantly impact the utility of the other two settings, especially since they were just outlines.

I can't cite sources, but I remember more than one interview/comment by WotC folks about a setting after DS that would be different. FR covered "traditional high fantasy", Eberron "modern fantasy", and DS "post-apocalyptic".

I don't remember anything beyond that, but they emphasized it would be something they hadn't done before. I can't see Nentir Vale fitting that role, unless there's something I've been missing all this time.

I still use them for inspiration event today. The flavor in the things is what I like(d) about them.

So if the flavor of the new ones are even close, then I'ma be happy. :D

I'd prefer something new, as well.

No Planescape, no Mystara, no Spelljammer, and no Greyhawk or Dragonlance. Hell, no Birthright, too, while we're at it (and that's my "blinded by nostalgia" setting).

They all had their days. Let something else have its day.

As a person who feels that he's been burned once after buying and being disappointed in Forgotten Realms, I have yet to purchase Eberron and have no plans to buy Dark Sun.

I do plan to purchase the Nentir Vale book, because I like the setting and would like more stuff to throw into it.

Really I am just looking forward to 4E Gamma World and having a little fun with it over the winter, perhaps using this as a way to convince my friends who swear they will never play 4E to give it a try without feeling like they are giving in on an argument.

You know, I'm still fairly surprised that they haven't come out with a setting based on Magic: The Gathering.

Well, whatever mistakes they made with FR...they didn't make them in Eberron. IMO, the Eberron Campaign Setting is one of the best 4e supplements, period.
