-Spelljammer -

-Ravenloft -

I'm personally at this point I think more in favor of a new setting, although I wouldn't mind any of the classics returning either.

These two, however, I think work great as they seem to be being used already... They always felt more like settings that didn't really "NEED" to be full on settings really.

I like that now they exist as part of the overall D&D world, so you can stop by if you want, or even do a full blown campaign revolving around the concepts but without needing to suddenly change how everything works.

Ravenloft perhaps, especially with DDI support in the Domains of Dread.

However, Spelljammer has been introduced only in the aspect of having a ship that can plane shift. Practically nothing else of the setting is included in 4e yet...no phogiston, no crystal spheres, no giff, etc etc.

I think there is plenty of opportunity for a Spelljammer setting.

Yeah maybe not the specifics, but the bigger idea is there.

You exist on magic powered flying ships, traveling from place to place.

The Astral sea (and all the planes really) sort of grabs up what the crystal spheres offered up, with the various domains taking the place of the different worlds.

I think they could expand on the idea more sure (like how they do with the domains of dread) but a whole setting? Eh...

Hadn't considered the earthmotes...

Admittedly I haven't read The Plane Above, so there very well could be more Spelljammer in there that I didn't realize.

But given the 'nostalgia' kick that WotC is going through right now with Essensitals, I'm starting to wonder if Greyhawk or Mystara might just be in the offing.

We'll find out tomorrow I guess. :D

RE: Doubt it is Dragonlance

I seriously doubt the new setting would be DragonLance. Don't get me wrong, I think fourth edition rules are perfect for the War of the Lance era. Never could you play D&D without the Divine power source so systematically. However, the lack of the "Divine Power Source" has been embraced by the new DarkSun campaign. Would they do two settings in a row lacking a main power source? I doubt it. Also the most popular adventure scenarios have been recently published and played again under the d20 System/v3.5. This means those original scenarios have been published what five times now? Would they turn around and do it again? I doubt it.
