D&D 5E No charge action in 5E?

There is a feat. That's it. No charge action. You can still charge, but you will receive no mechanical benefit.

Which doesn't sit well with me, therefore we'll house rule it. Run really fast, get one attack, then we'll roll for the severity of the collision and hilarity and chaos may ensue - the target may get knocked back and prone, but the attacker will likely go down too. Maybe the attacker falls on their enemy's blade, or even their own, who knows? Is it in the rules? No. But we'll make it spectacular and dramatic so it's all good.

Indeed. I've become convinced that very few groups played 1E AD&D by RAW. None of the groups I played with did so, at least.
I know we didn't. I fiddled with many rules, dropping those that really messed us up (such as weapon attack modifiers). Given it's complexity, my guess would be that most groups did the same.
