Would you play in a game without clerics??

  • Yes, if druids could spontaneously cast cure spells.

  • No, the cleric is a vital part of the game and the lack of healing spells would not work.

I'm currently playing in a group that does not have a cleric. Actually the campaign rules that the DM has setup have made it so that clerics are not found in this campaign world. So we have a druid and a bard in the party that makes up or quasi healer. Now I have played in games where there was no magic in the world, so of course there were no clerics, but in a world of magic, have any of you ever played in a game where the cleric is prohibited??

I'm not a huge fan of these options. There isn't an 'Other.'

I'd play in a group without Clerics because I don't think it's absolutely necessary. They're really useful, but if no one wanted to play a Cleric, that's cool too.

My games almost always have Clerics, though.

Sure. Granted, I also play with AU/AE classes, so that eases the fears of not having a Cleric along when even the Magister can do a little healing.

Most of our games are pretty grotty (either low-magic, or perversely masochistic) and we regularly play without clerics.

The current low-magic campaign I'm running has no magically powered clerics, but they have a source for a couple of Cure Light potions every now and then, and I've implemented bar fight healing rules - if the party gets into a fight in a bar, at the end of the fight, they get back an amount of hit points that is almost always greater than what they lost in the fight itself. The idea being that that is the sort of thing that invigorates adventurers. :D

I'm playing in a campaign right now without a cleric.

Healing potions work very well.

We also have a rogue who is very good at use magic device, so we use clerical magic items, but we don't have an actual cleric.

I would play in a game without a cleric. If the campaign world was without divine powers though I would hope the DM had a good story or world building reason for it and not just arbitrarily ruling no clerics.

The poll really needed an other option. Actually looking at the detail I think the headline question should have been about playing in a game where clerics were prohibited. I can see times where clerics could be removed from the set of classes, but it can be possible to allow arcane spellcasters to use cure spells or if Druids, paladins and bards are available then they take on the healing role.

The problem is that Generic D&D counts on the players having a cleric around. Not just for hit point healing, but for neutralize poison, cure disease, restoration etc. Not to mention turning undead.
