No Cleric in my Group

Would you play in a game without clerics??

  • Yes, my gaming group never has a cleric anyway.

    Votes: 105 43.9%
  • Maybe just once if it fit into a particular campaign.

    Votes: 96 40.2%
  • Yes, if druids could spontaneously cast cure spells.

    Votes: 10 4.2%
  • No, the cleric is a vital part of the game and the lack of healing spells would not work.

  • Poll closed .
All casters besides Sorcerers and Wizards have access to some healing.

though yes, Clerics seem slightly more essential then other classes, they can even find traps, if not disarm them (notable since Rogues seem to be the other "must have" class). But the poll is still skewed.

My world is almost completely shaped by religion. The largest power is a polytheistic theocracy, all the races recognize the same gods and transcendence to petty godhood isn't that darned hard.

And not one player of 6 has made a cleric.

The party ahs a friendly clan of gnomes who they gave several expensive gifts to. This clan tries to have soem spar healing potions for them when they come around. It hasn't been all too bad.

Of course, they are getting to where more and more undead come around. But, hey! :)

Yes, I'd play in a group without a cleric.

Unfortunately this option (or even a similar one for that matter) is not available in the poll for whatever obscure reason.

Our current group now has no cleric anymore (died and didn't continue (made new char, that is)), it'll be a bit more difficult that way (we still have a bard, tho), but certainly doable. Especially now, that my sorceress has reached 12th level and can cast Planar Binding. :D

I don't reaslly care if a party lacks a Mage, Cleric or Rogue. The party would have to adapt. I think a non-cleric campaign would work fine if Wizards were allowed some sort of necromantic healing. Persoanally I'd love an all cleric game.

Midnight has no clerics. Sure higher level spellcasters can get healing spells, but at low level you won't see them. It is hard, but it can be done. The big thing is the party has to understand the limitations and know when it is time to cut and run.

I did not vote as I did not like the options. However, I have played camapaigns where 5 of 6 characters (1 cleric, 3 paladins, 1 druid and 1 rogue) were able to heal.

I have also played both good and evil clerics, with about 90% of spell selection all cure X or inflict X, and spontaneously converted to healing/inflicting when desired. Also played a good cleric when about 90% of spell selection was cure X, and evil cleric where spells were virtually all inflict X spells. The party had another cleric whom they turned to for healing, though, in the last instance.

Our games USUALLY have a cleric, although there have been some where we decided not to.

I've run many levels with no clerics or other spellcasters with the ability to heal. You find ways around it, alter the flow of the game a bit, provide other means, etc. The biggest impact is during combat, when the insta-healing can really come in handy, but again--you work around it. It's fine provided the DM remembers there is no cleric.

I've been close, with three clerics at one time in my campaign. It is such a powerful class that folks in my campaigns usually dig playing them. I can see playing a campaign without them, but I would have to change my DMing style a bit.
