i've tried in the past introducing a no damage roll.
instead everything is based on your roll to hit.
if you needed say 15. and you roll 15. you do 1 pt. damage
16 - 2 pts
17 - 3 pts
18 - 4 pts
19 - 5 pts
20 - 6 pts max damage
based on weapon type.
so in the above example 18, 19, 20 do 4 pts with a dagger. or with a longsword. the minimum would be 3 pts
and if you roll 1, you miss... but you are so off balance you are open to an attack... your ac is reduced.
would a system like this interest you?
