No damage roll

Not necessarily...if you calculate whether you hit first, and then calculate DR afterwards, they still have different effects.

AC will keep you from taking any damage, and DR will reduce the damage, but only after you're hit. If you cap damage at the maximum that you could roll, you get a really nice system (at least in my opinion).

It's wierd, but just recently there have been half a dozen threads started in House Rules very similar to what I have been considering. I have also been thinking of eliminating the damage roll and applying the degree of success from the attack roll to the damage.

Specifically, I was thinking that rather than adding Strength bonus to damage, base damage would be a formula based on Str (which could be worked out ahead of time), similar to Unisystem.

these are from notes i have in my campaign book from sept, 1980.

i'm trying to update them to see if anything new could be added to them. i've also started toying with them for other systems. like d02.
