Ok, this is no rant, this isn't much of anything (probably not even witty), but the 'other' thread is closed now ...
What happened to me yesterday was just about the opposite of what happened to Arbiter of Wyrms:
So I'm packing my things, generally on the way to the door, when in passing I mention that I'm going to be away and that I'm probably late for DnD already. My sister (who was away for six months and didn't know I'd found a group to play with) asks without missing a beat "Can I come too?". I think about it for a moment, before coming to the conclusion that I want to subject her neither to the kinda weird people I play with (not extremely so, but clashing with her own brand of weirdness) nor to the extremely technical the-rules-are-everything approach the DM espouses. In short, I don't want her to draw wrong conclusions about roleplaying in general from things you overlook (or work to change), if you're a hardcore gamer already. So, I laugh and say something like 'Nah, but I have to hurry now.'
Yeah, it being 5:30 in the morning I felt like sharing. Maybe I should go to sleep now ...
