Hey! I don't post often at all, but my search results haven't turned up much on this subject. Apologies for the min/max line of questioning...
So, I love the third revision of the Mystic, particularly the Nomad subclass. I'd been wanting to make a throwing-focused build for some time, which has been very difficult to do in 5e, and the Nomadic Arrow discipline gave me some hope that it could now be done properly.
The gist of the build is to dual-wield darts, use Sharpshooter and combine with Faithful Archer and a 6-level multiclass in Bladesinger for Bladesong and eventually the extra attack. High AC, bunch of attacks, very teleport-y. Seems like a lot of fun from 1-20.
Anyway, the scourge of the dart thrower has always been the action economy and not being able to draw enough daggers to keep up - does Faithful Archer fix this? The text at the end gave me hope: "Until your concentration ends, you can make an extra attack with the weapon at the start of each of your turns (no action required). If it is a thrown weapon, it returns to your grasp each time you make any attack with it."
Trying to wrap my mind around the concept: Does the dart return to your main hand only? Since the text specifies "a ranged weapon," can it return to your off-hand in time to make the bonus action attack with it?
Finally, I'm not sure if darts work with Bladesingers. The flavor text for weapon styles mention throwing axes, but not darts, specifically. There's no mention that throwing weapons are forbidden with Bladesong, just no two-handed weapon attacks (why I chose darts over bows/crossbows). Seems to work - would you allow it?
14 Nomad / 6 Bladesinger Eladrin is the goal. Love the flavor and synergy, just hoping it's all legal, rule-wise.
Thanks in advance!
