Non-Clerics Turning Undead

The long and the short of it is.... there's no core 3.5 feat that gives the ability, which means there's no reason to even consider it. Anyone who wants to turn should take a level of cleric or 4 levels of paladin (or some prestige class, I guess).

Hmm. How about -

Arcane Undead Rebuke/Turning (pre-req: Either a specialist necro or abjure). User must spend a spell in order to turn undead - using the spell level (of the spell sacrificed) instead of their CHA modifier for that turning. So, a 8th level wizard goes to turn undead, sacrifices a 3rd level spell, and so turns (at his level) at 8th with a +3 modifier (as if 16 CHA). Use of this power provokes an attack of opportunity. If you are a necromancer spec, rebuke, if abjure, turn.

Perhaps include/allow bard to take it, but it also uses up a song, no specialty requirements.

Just a thought.

If turning wasn't so worthless, I'd agree... :)

The only times I've seen turning used was with the divine feats from Complete Warrior...

It gets used in my campaign a LOT. But I'm an undead-lovin' DM.

ummm... er... I mean, I use a lot of undead.

that still doesn't sound right.

The players fight a lot of undead.

There. That's better.

Oh - and I also allowed the monk in my campaign to take turning as a paladin of his level (which is to say, as a cleric of his level -3) in place of his 6th level bonus feat. To date, he hasn't used it except to meet the entrance req. of the Undead Hunter PrC. But that will change, I'm sure, as he just got it before the last adventure, which didn't feature any undead bad guys.

And the 6th level cleric of the sun, with a 17 CHA, and 5+ ranks in knowledge(religion), and the extra turning feat, is an undead-turning machine.
