Honestly, in play I don't get any "Industrial Revolution" feel from the artificer. It feels more like an advanced Harold Shea ("hmmm..let's try this to see how this magic works").

The irony of anyone voting in this poll on how a class actually plays is not lost on me. ;)

You don't get an "asian" feel from asian classes, or a "sci-fi" feel from psionic classes in play either, though. You can file the serial numbers off as easily as you could with the Artificer. And with less bogging down the game (wait a month wile I wiggle this figgit) and more reason to exist (Hi, I'm the warforged healer!) :p

Vote off Artificer! Who the heck wants that overpowered and goofy character in their game anyway!

Don't vote for Favored Soul. They fill a needed niche. I know people hate the wings, but since it is a high level ability it's easy to ignore. Most high level abilities don't even come into games. Heck, with multi-classing and your average game being mid-level, I doubt there is even a handful of people that actually get to extra-high-levels in a single non-core class anyway. But the basics of this class are sound and useful.

You got it! Psionics lovers unite! Vote for Artificer! [Actually, that was my vote last round, so I am agreeing with you - not really swayed by the speech. :D ] Really my reason is Down with Eberron classes!

And truth has been spoken here.

Oh. I almost forgot. If you want to get into a decent discussion about the wingless FS, go to the House Rules forum. I just started that discussion over there. FS haters, though ... please don't go. I'm tryig to have a legitimate discussion and don't need comments like "Just don't play a stupid class if you don't like the wings." Thanks!

Oh, I do, at least the oriental classes. However, I can see past that as well.

Psionics, however, used to seem to be more Deryni in feel. Not so much with the 3E version. However, it's been a long time since I've read a Deryni book.

Knight. I hate codes of conduct, they seem like some sort of half-brained attempt to balance a class by limiting their actions or something.

For me its not the wings. Favored Souls suffer a lot of the same problems sorcs due in comparison to the wizard, except this is the CLERIC!!!

A lot of cleric spells are very situational spells which is fine when you can swap out spells 1/day. But it makes it very very hard for a favored soul to pull any of the clerics weight.

And this is one reason I've mentioned might account for the dropping of divine classes like flies (with only the Archivist seeming to have a chance to last). They all get compared to the cleric! How can another class hold up to it?

Simple--the Archivist does not have the raw power of the Cleric, it's true, but it is fun to play and makes the game more fun. It has enough goodies that you don't feel weak when playing it even if it can't stand up to the Cleric power-for-power. Our Shackled City group has a Cleric and an Archivist (me!) both. Frankly, Alcyone is pleased-as-punch that we have someone with the Healing domain so that she doesn't have to make more scrolls of CLW. She's more interested in RPing with various groups in Cauldron than she is at fighting as well as the Cleric (her total attack bonus is negative, but she laughs it off...unless there's a Grell. Bad Grell!) And thanks to selecting Draconic Archivist for flavour reasons (not expecting to get to use it), she's had Dark Knowledge to share with the party in a whole bunch of fights.
