Non-evil assassin

Just a simple question: Looses a Rog 10 / Asn 3 the extra sneak attack damage gained by the three assassin levels if he becomes non-evil (and thus suddenly can't strike vital spots as accurate as he did before)? Or is it just like a bard who has become lawful, so that the (former) assassin can use his special abilities, but cannot advance in assassin levels anymore?
I know that there is something written about this in the DMG, but the ruling there doesn't make sense to me, since the Asn has no "link" to a deity, oath or the like.

Beeing evil is only the prequisite to become a member of that special assassins guild of greyhawk described in the DMG.

Other Classes loose some abilities because the abilites have something to do with the state of mind of the character (Chaos for a barabrians rage for example, LG for a paladins "holyness"), but sneak attack is something you can do because you've learned it not because the character is in the right state of mind (Perhaps he might loose the deathattack but even this might be open to discussion).

I'd say the character will most likely not want to advance as an assassin or not be allowed to remain in this guild(perhaps he becomes a target to the guild himself), but IMHO you shouldn't loose most of your abilities.

If you lose any of the prerequisites for a prestige class, you also lose all the benefits gained from that prestige class (except for skills, BAB, saves, and HD). Hence, no extra sneak attack damage.

While I agree with Ragnarok's explanation, Hong is absolutely right. Just as if a shadow drains your strength so you can't meet the 13 strength requirement for power attack, you can't use the feats cleave, sunder, etc. Also if power attack was a pre-requisite to your PrC, you lose your PrC until you get your Str back up to 13 (in the example I just gave).

With the non-evil asn.

You lose the benefits of the "special" column in advancing for an "ex-assassin" - although I have never heard anything explicit about this.

Odds are - the assassin's guild is going tto hunt down and kill this character. I guess it is just an omission from the class description about "ex-assassins"

What happens if he gets hit by a helm of opposite alignment tho? ... interesting question.

*sigh*

Loose = doesn't fit. Not tight. Not rigid.

Lose = to not have access to. To be deprived of. To be unsuccessful in retaining possession of.

(Yeah, I know I'm being nit-picky, but I see this far too often on these boards. ;) )
