non PHB races

for those of you who have played none PHB races in 3e or a previous D&D edition what race did you enjoy playing the most and why?

I once played a thri-kreen and had a lot of fun with it. mostly because they moved a little faster and got a lot of attacks. the drawback definatly was NPC interaction.

Dark Sun had some good races (Muls I think they were called), but If I want to play something different now, I just use a monster as the race (gotta love playing a death slaad :))

I've thouroughly enjoyed myself as a troll fighter/barbarian/ranger or something like that more then once in high level campaigns.

And I'm currently playing a Kender Psion and a Quickling Munched Rogue Ranger Duelist Ninja ect. in another game.

Cool. I'm playing a halfling psion (psychoportation) in my wife's campaign. It's been a lot of fun :)

Goblin rogue9/fighter2

Took weapon focus and the first level of the Cordun style out of Quintessential fighter (got a shield bash)

Goblins are great rogues -- most of the halfling benefits, but without the speed penalty...

I currently have a half-dwarf (I made the race to fit a character concept) and a ferral (kind of an elf/halfing mix but different) in my current campaign. It really breaths life into the campaign to have unique races running around.

I've tried the Fairy in Mythic Races and have just started playing a Wild Elf in a Forgotten Realms campaign (Darn DM's favorite world is the one published world I have zero interest in...).

I have a fairy thing... but I didn't much like the Mythic Races version, as they made it ECL 3 without edits, but the author of it balanced it for ECL 0. As such, it is notably hindered.

To date, I haven't seen anyone handle playable fey races well, despite this being a very common motiff in fantasy myth and fiction.

I have a very strong Darksun background so any of those races-

Thri-kreen A lot of fun, dangerous fighters and plenty of opertunity for role playing.

Mul 1/2 dwarf was fun but became tainted as almost everytime I see them they are Gladiators

1/2 Giants Hefty smashing strike but no brain power. LOTS of fun to play in the right group.
