You know its funny. I once called in sick and actually was sick. Thing is my boss didn't believe me, so he came over to my house. He saw what bad shape I was in and apologized for any inconvenience.

Had a boss like that, but he was looking for an excuse to fire me. I called in sick, but he had this suspicion about me so he went to stake out my place. He saw me coming home. He turned me around to confront me at my doorstep ... while I'm holding a bag of prescription medicine and a doctor's note.

The boss was a jerk to me, so I faked an uncontrollable fit of coughing and hocked a big loogie ... and it landed on his crotch. A month later, he got transferred.

Unfortunately, my boss knows one of the people I live with. Would be too easy for her to check up on me.

However, despite the fact that I frequently THINK about calling in sick, I never do. Heck, I even went to work with a sick stomach. Managed to stay there for an hour before I decided that no, I couldn't work 8 hours with a sick stomach.
