Not too late to judge at GenCon - and get free entry!

thanks, guys!

I don't understand -- do you mean people get the adventures in the week before the con and play them via email or something? How does that work?

Some folks do, primarily Living Greyhawk and Living City modules. Other people get together with other judges in their area and play them before the con. I've never done much of this, because I primarily run games with pre-generated characters, but a lot of folks are holding slot zero's this weekend and early next week.

Hey there everyone!

Troy here from GenCon!

Basically what I can do.. is if you agree to judge 4 events I can either

A - get you a free badge for the show

B - if you have purchased a badge, get you a refund after the show.

If you want to help out.. here is all you have to do.

1 - go to www.consupport.com

2 - register (upper left hand corner)

3 - go to volunteers/slots and sign up for what you want to judge

4 - email me back. (troy@rpgaonline.com)and you are set to go!

Thanks to anyone that can help out.. I appreciate it, and I know the players will too!

Take care.. and good gaming!

If there werent' so many other logistical issues involved, I'd probably consider this this a good deal.

Excuse me while I rant a little bit. I think the RPGA should be renamed "We're always looking for D.., er Judges - no experience necessary."

No offense, I know you have the best of intentions, but I've heard from more than one person (both player and GM) that has had a bad experience with an RPGA game because the GM was handed the module literally 30 minutes or an hour before he had to run it.

So, for the love of pete, please give those that sign up to be a Judge, ample time to read through and study the module, for the sake of all of those involved.

It's actually a pretty darn good deal when you think about it.

Judge 4 slots, at about 4.5 hours each... (22 hours)... and get a $55 dollar badge for free.. or refunded.

:-)

Not bad.. :-)

Take care!

Troy

I understand completely friend. I HATE it when a judge does not have time to prep the scenario.

The current system that I outlined in a previous message tries to take care of that in several ways..

1 - After you have emailed me and told me that you have signed up, I approve your schedule. Once that is done, you can INSTANTLY download virtually 95% of the scenarios, and immediately begin reading.

2 - After you are approved, you are added to the GenConGM yahoo group. This allows you to interact with the other judges, ask questions about the events, and possibly even take part in playing the event beforehand. We have found that judges that play the event, THEN Run it, have a better understanding of how the event will play out, and run it better.

3 - The GenConGM group also has most of the coordinators for the campaigns that you are most likely to be running on it. Therefore if questions arise, asking them will usually get an answer from a Subject Matter Expert in the event, and you will be back on track to run a successful game.

Hope that helps a bit!

Take care.. and good gaming!

judging as in DMing?
No, silly, judging as in passing judgement on other attendees:
"Wearing too much black - GUILTY!"

"Telling passersby about your kewl barbarian/cleric - GUILTY!"

"Choosing another pass through the exhibitors' hall over a shower - GUILTY!"

"Ignoring your high school health teacher's advice on the importance of sleep and nutrition - GUILTY!"

hhmmm - interesting....

If I agree to DM every slot, will you give me a return plane ticket from Australia?

oh well, it was worth asking.

Maybe in a couple of years I will make it to Gencon again (97 was my last trip).

I want this Judging gig :D

How much longer do I have to decide to judge? I have one friend coming, and I need to make sure he is alright with me leaving him alone for a few hours at a time first. Is there any way to get my friend into a slot at one of my tables, or if not, can I at least get him into a game at the same time? I just want to make sure I'm not letting him down...

I am only going to be at the Con for 2 days, there will be ample need for me to fill 4 slots in 2 days, right?

Bring my own dice?
