Notes on the Aether (Rae judging)

"What? Well, if you think it's going to be helpful," says Keldar, confused. He struts over to the woman. "I'm Keldar. I didn't realise such roses grew in Grenton, or I would have visited much sooner. What's your name?"

"Silver though your tongue may be, Keldar, I don't think even it can put out a building on fire by wagging. What do you say we let our actions speak for us this time?" Tommy tries to steer Keldar gently towards the barricade to the south. "Come on. You'll need some time to come up with a rhyme for 'extinguish' anyways."

"Make up your mind, it was your idea in the first place," says Keldar to Tommy. "Farewell, flower of Grenton! In sorrow I shall languish." He allows himself to be dragged off. "That rhymes, huh? Everyone grab a bucket. Is there time to get rope? If we get trapped in the tower by the fire, we'll regret not being able to climb out through a window."

"I think it's more of an assonance, but I suppose if that's the best you can do..." Tommy shrugs. "Rope isn't a bad idea though, if it can be procured quickly."

"Oh well, assonance happen," says Keldar, looking around for a child. "Here, lad," he says [assuming he finds one], "These are two gold crowns - run off as fast as you can, buy me 100 feet of rope, and get back here on the double with it - and there'll be one more gold piece for you. Get a friend to help you if you can't carry it yourself." [Failing that, he will go himself.]

A random kid runs by Keldar, grabs the money, and runs right back with 100 feet of silk rope behind him.

The woman blushes. "My name's Jeline. I highly doubt the rope will do any good. The windows are way too hard to break open by hand. The kobolds tried once. The whole side of the tower lit up and little walking flames started coming out. Much easier to just go in the door. At least if you can get it open."

There is another blue flash from the tower, and the fire shrinks until it is barely visible above the trees. The smoke plume continues to go straight up over the tower.

"If you're done wooing the locals Keldar, I believe we have a fire to stop this way?" Rapture says, tapping her foot from near the barricade.

"Let him woo the locals. Keeps him out of my hair." Galwynn mmutters, while heading for the front door. "Think it's trapped?"

"Jealous m'lord?" Rapture asks Galwynn with a smirk.

"I'd say likely, given a misfired trap was of concern. We should bring Keldar along so he can open it first and see."

"I... she wasn'-... I mean... you-... there's onl-... Tommy made me do it," stammers Keldar, unaccountably flustered.

"Someone had better be," mutters Keldar to himself.
"I'd say likely, given a misfired trap was of concern. We should bring Keldar along so he can open it first and see."
"No trap would dare harm the mighty Keldar!" he says, trying valiantly to recover his poise. "Follow Keldar!"
