Notes on the Aether (Rae judging)

OOC: Hey, Tarag's a PC, not an NPC, so I can't really complain about being on an adventure (just about being on a non-adventure! ;) )

Besides, while all the rest of them are busy with Elementals 101, he'll just go ahead and smash the dirt and banish the flames!

OOC: I'd definitely like to continue, though I have the grim feeling that Keldar won't survive. Rae, you're a saint. As for explaining the situation to Galwynn... an earth elemental that's on fire? He'll never grasp it.

Round 1
Initiative:

22 Keldar
19 Rapture
19 Galwynn
14 Tommy
06 Earthie
06 Smokie
03 Tarag

Keldar's projectile flies from his hand and smashes into the earthen figure as it rises from the ground. Small bits of smoking rock go flying everywhere. (5 damage to Earthie)

Rapture's sloppy charge is ineffective, and she nearly drops her sword as she stumbles, but somehow the paladin recovers.

Galwynn fares somewhat better, but despite the power behind his blow, his sword doesn't damage the earth elemental's rock exterior.

The earth elemental prepares to slam one of the two paladins nearby by concentrating the mass of its arm into its fist. But Tommy's bolt zips in and shatters the elemental's wrist, and its massive fist falls to the ground, a lifeless clump of rock and dirt. (5 damage to Earthie)

A grinding groan emerges from somewhere within the earth elemental, but it continues its attack unfazed. The arm, faster now because of the reduced weight, slams (17) (14) into Galwynn's side and crushes bruises his bones. Brave Galwynn manages to remain standing simply shrugs off the pain. (15 6 damage to Galwynn)

The ball of smoke moves closer, quickly now that the battle has begun. It becomes evident that a small group of dancing flames is the cause of the smoke. The flames reach Galwynn and flit about his feet, but do no harm... yet.

Tarag... (Changing your action based on events?)

OOC: Map is on the way, but I can't seem to find the diameter of the tower. Actually, I can't even find the shape of it. I'm imagining a cylindrical, slightly tapered structure, about 80' diameter at the base and 60' diameter at the top. Can you all confirm that the tower's size/shape were never given?

Galwynn, HP 4/19

(OOC: I never pay attention to sizes of things to begin with. And I'm sure there's a dirty joke there.

15 points of damage!? Yikes. Maybe it was better when Sword was running things... Gall would still be in limbo, healthy and well!)

Galwynn staggers back, and almost drops his blade. He considers for a moment pulling back to heal, but decides against it, and swings once more.

Galwynn's attack (no power attack) (1d20+5=12, 2d6+3=6)

(and I think I should've healed myself!)

The rest is self-explanatory, I hope.

Tarag winces in sympathy as the earth elemental staves in batters Galwynn's ribs. Shaking his head in disbelief that the paladin is still standing - he heard the crack from here! - Drawing a deep breath, he grabs his holy symbol and brandishes it. Reasoning that it's better to deal with one enemy at a time, he rebukes the creature of flame and smoke which threatens to immolate his wounded companion.

Keldar watches as his expensive alchemist's fire burns to the core of the weakened earth elemental, frustrated that he is unable to get to the action. "Galwynn, step back. You're in no fit state to... well, anything. I have a present for you," he says.

[sblock=DM Rae] Ignore until we have an update, please.[sblock=Irrelevant blether, having just realised that Wik has announced Galwynn's action for next turn already]Stupid 10' corridors. Delaying until after Galwynn's initiative count. If for once in his life the paladin listens to good advice, Keldar will 5' step behind Galwynn's new position, use a move action to retrieve his CLW potion, and a standard action to force it down his throat offer it to him (no?). If, as seems more likely, Galwynn does [has done] his own thing, [so] Keldar will... er... stand around like a lemon, presumably. A lemon on full defence. Except - if Galwynn steps into the earth elemental's former space [if the 2nd round of alchemist's fire damage on Keldar's 22 initiative count kills it], giving Keldar a spot next to Rapture to reach the smoky elemental, Keldar will move forward and hit it with his morning star two-handed, +2, 1d8+3. Unless Galwynn and Rapture have killed it already, in which case, it's back to the lemon plan. Oh, and if Rapture is wounded, any concern for Galwynn goes out the window. The healing potion has her name on it. With little hearts drawn around it.[/sblock][/sblock]

Tommy Worthallingham, Wizard 2 HP 9 AC 12

Tommy gasps in dismay as Galwynn takes a punishing blow. Unable to get a clean shot through the flashing limbs of his comrades, Tommy drops his crossbow, draws his wand of missiles an expends one of it few remaining charges, doing miniscule damage to the walking pile of rock.

ooc: 1d4+1=2, 4 charges left. This is assuming that the thing isn't dead by Tommy's turn, of course.

ooc: Skimming through the thread, I'm pretty sure the size and shape of the tower were never mentioned. At one point Keldar is described as "circling" the tower, but that's the closest we came. We do know it has at least 5 stories.
