[November] What are you reading?

I just came back from a two-week business trip, and devoured a total of six novels in 13 days, something I haven't had the opportunity to do in some time.

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, Books 4 and 5. Entertaining, and now that series has been finished up.

Demon Eyes, by L. H. Maynard and M. P. N. Sims. I bought this for 50 cents at a library book sale and got my money's worth, although I was rather disappointed about 20 pages from the end when I realized there was no way this was going to be all wrapped up in one novel - and sure enough, it wasn't. I wasn't intrigued enough to want to read any further books in this series.

Locked Rooms, by Laurie R. King. Eighth in a series of novels about Sherlock Holmes and his second assistant, Mary Russell. I read the first 5 but haven't seen books 6 or 7, but realized that the likelihood was that they didn't have to be read in sequence to be enjoyed, and I was right. A pleasant read.

The Art of Detection, by Laurie R. King. Her other mystery series, featuring a modern-day police detective in San Francisco. I bought this one because it featured the death of a Holmes fan and the possibility of a lost Holmes story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but I won't be in a big hurry to read any more of this series. Extremely preachy.

Smoke Screen, by Vincent Patrick. Part heist novel, part spy thriller, part bacteriological terrorist plot, this was awesome! I'll definitely be looking into what else this guy has written.

After over a decade I picked up Homelands again, nothing like Salvatore's flagship. Drow, drow, drow, and more drow. Just the way I like it.

I'm currently reading REAMDE by Neil Stephenson. It's my first exposure to Stephenson, and I'm enjoying it so far. Enough that I'm considering tackling Anathem next, if my local library doesn't cough up my reserve on Ghost Story soon.

Anyhoo, I'm about half way through it, and it's mostly about an MMO-virus-based money-making scam gone horribly awry, but it's also dealing with Chinese politics, Eastern European/Russian mafias, and it's even got a dash of political spy thriller tossed in.

Read Snowcrash... Coins "Avatar." one of my favorite reads. Read the Sprawl trilogy by Gibson. These two authors turned me on to cyberpunk.

Star Trek Destiny book2: Mere Mortals by David Mack.

So far, I'm enjoying it, though I will be glad when I get past all these post-Nemesis Borg books and into stories that aren't all about the total annihilation of the Federation.

Reading a bunch of Arkham 1st editions. Just finished 'Alone with the Horrors' by Ramsay Campbell, which was a mixed bag. If the last story had connected with me at all I probably would have come away with a better impression of it overall.

Up next Stories of Darkness and Dread by Joseph Payne Brennan, so far really liking it, simple but effective short stories.

Finished A Dance of Blades (Shadowdance Trilogy, Book 2) by David Dalglish and started A Dance of Death (Shadowdance Trilogy, Book 3) by David Dalglish.

Been a while going through a book this quickly.
