Now I know why I play games

One would like to think that the reason we play roleplaying games is because we want to live in fantasy worlds, do heroic deeds, and be someone we are not. I don't think this is the case. I think we do it because the worlds that we make when playing these games make sense. Horrible things don't happen to good people, and if they do, the heroes are there to bring justice or some kind of resolution to those horrible things. Its the real world that is unfair, and unjust, and ultimately uncaring.

The reason I say all this? Because this happened to a friend of my fiance.

I hate the real world.

As of a father of two, I can't even think about something like this with a clear head. I can't decide what's worse: the random nature of it, or the father's grief, forever self-recriminating.
