Now Is This A Promise?

you can report them to the better business bureau. Not sure how much that really does but.

I think (at least this is how it works in Canada) it hurts them more if they are a member of the Better Business Bureau and don't uphold the requirements of the Board. I'm not sure what happens to them if they aren't a member. Maybe it hurts their future chances of becoming a member.

Eh? I don't call anything a promise until someone says "I promise." It sucks when people double back on their word or when things just plain don't get done on time, but promises are very specific and very forceful things. Assuming them makes an ass out of you and... well, mostly you. :p

So when you get gas that's supposed to be $3.56 a gallon and it turns out you're being charged $4.00 a gallon, you're okay because the gas pump didn't promise it to you? :erm:

As a foreginer visiting the states, I'm always confounded by the fact that the price on the sticker is not what I pay at the cash register. Not adding sales tax to the sticker price seems backwards to me.

So to me ... all the time I do shopping in the states, I get "promised" one price, and charged another. Crazy world. :D

To the OP...

Why not just wait and see if it is ready on day one? If it isn't you know there will be plenty of people coming to vent on ENWorld and thus you save yourself the frustration. I plan on signing up but not until it has a had a few months for the web developers to work out any issues.

Dude, its a company selling a product. Quit acting like its your good-fer-nuthin' husband makin' up stories about when he's gonna to get home from the pub.

When subscription services go up, I expect there will be something telling us what's available. On that date, I'll decide whether I want to subscribe. Simple as that.

Thanks, now I have food all over my brand new laptop..

Just my two coppers

Why is this even an issue? If someone doesn't think WotC will deliver on the DDI, then don't pay for a subscription.
Just don't get it if you think it will be disappointing. If you get it, and are disapointed, stop getting it.

From my POV, the amount of material posted to DDI that I actually use or find interesting enough to want to pay for is vastly inferior to the amount that I don't find interesting (or at least, interesting enough to pay for). If that were to change, then they'd get my cash. As things stand right now, not so much.

Or here's another options- wait 24 hours after the subscription service begins. Post a thread on this forum asking what is available and what isn't. Someone will answer.

Why is this even an issue?

Its an issue for many customers as WotC has built a reputation for not being able to deliver the electronic products and support that they have advertised (promised, consideration, committed to, ?). This has lead to frustration, disappointment and in many cases anger.

For what its worth, I think the question is a valid one and worthy of discussion.

Given that reputation, I personally wouldn't sign up for a month or 2 while they work out the bugs & crashes that are sure to arise when thousands of gamers start exploring the DDI's functionality and really put stress on that system. I know that I would be really pissed if I'm running a game, counting on access to the DDI to help me out and that system is not available when I need it.

I dunno where you get gas when you're in the States, but where I live, everything is included in the listed price for gas, including state sales tax, additional gasoline taxes that California imposes, and all that. What it lists on the sign is what you pay.

What bothers me is their whole 9/10 of a cent thing to make people think it's one cent cheaper.

So, the question was: "Now, is this a promise?"
Are we dodging the answer?

As a WotC/4E f4nboi, I think it is a promise.

What would I do if they fail it?
I'd be disappointed.

BUT what they are promising is not my primary reason to get the DDI. I want the Dragon and Dungeon, because I've been enjoying the content so far, and I want to keep doing so. I think spending the money for it is worth it, even without the bonus tools or the rules data base (since I don't use them). If for some reason the Dragon/Dungeon content is delayed or disappointing, I might revise my decision. (Of course, I'd probably still have to put up with it for another year. :erm: )

What is more important to me, though, is that it really doesn't look like we get the Game Table soon. I think even my prediction it might be available in the middle of next year might have been too optimistic. The Character Generator/Visualizer I can see till then. The Game Table - not so much. That's a far bigger disappointment to me. (Though should it - when and with whom do I expect to use the Game Table?)
