Now that Zulkir is back in town... A Post Setting Search Question

I told myself that I wouldn't ask this, but I just have to know...

Anthony, just what was the actual criteria used to narrow down your search to 11 submissions once the individual judges brought their favorites to the table? Was it presentation? Originality of the odeas presented? Ease of applying those ideas to things other than tablertop RPG's?

Note that I'm not asking for specifics - I'm well aware that information about the submissions themselves is quite off limits. But, if you are able and willing, can you clue us in as to the generals?

I have a feeling it would get the proverbial monkey off a number of peoples' back (my own, included).

Thanks in advance, and if you can't answer due to other constraints I certainly understand...

And when will we see more stuff approved in the SRD? ;)

(Sorry, just want to end the doomsday posts predicting that WotC will jerk back all stuff under the 'gentlemens' agreement')

To disagree, I think it might not be that productive to talk about what they were looking for. The last thing I want to see is a huge thread of "my submission had those things, why didn't you choose me?"

On the other hand, while my submission didn't make it, I found using their template a very good exercise. I'd love to see an example of what they're asking those 11 teams to do for the second round, just so I can do that exercise myself to polish up my own ideas.

How's that sound?

template

I missed the competition, but the template thing sparked my interest.

Does anyone know if it's still up on the wizards site, or if it's a download or anything?

If it's a PDF that is FREE to distribute, I'd like someone to email it to me.

Thanks.

I would also like to see the template for the 10-pagers. Would certainly be interested in doing my setting to that tune, anyway.

I also want to know just what went on in a winning setting, versus the other settings, and the names of the settings that came close (face it, there is a lot to read already :-/ )

You know, I would almost agree with that (the main reason I initially stopped myself was because of that fear). But, I think we're all adult enough to realize that regardless of how good we think our work is, only the 11 were actually good enough to make the cut.

But, I'm looking at this whole thing as a learning experience, and would love to find out what I was my submission was lacking this time around so I don't end up making the same mistakes the next time I decide to submit an idea (if I so choose to submit). TO that end, I'll take any information I can get my grubby little hands on...

And I would absoluutely, 100% love to see that, as I think it would be a great exercise.

Well, I also suppose it is possible that they are customizing the requests to the eleven to some degree, so it may not have as much of a "template" feel...

I was thinking that too, but it's going to follow a general pattern.

They would want the user to expand on the weak parts of their one-pager - for mine, that would probably be focusing on the heroes and how they actually managed to survive for so long in such a setting.

But, do they want an expansion on threats? An example of a big bad guy? A sample feat, or something (for crunchy-ness) - these things I know not of.
