Now that's a lot of Prestige Classes

Nightfall, So which PrC in Rangers and Rogues was your brainchild? Since we know all the names already, your NDA should be safe.

Acutally, now that i think of it, could anyone who has the Calastia book (nudges Nightfall :D) give me a brief (2-3 sentences) description of the PrCs Nighfall listed above? Also a page reference for each would be great too.

Hey man, give credit where credit is due. That was me, not Nightfall! But just because I'm nice, I'll give you the pages too...

Calastian Battle Mage(Cbm) - pg 93
Dragon Knight(Dkn) - pg 95
Halfling Stalker (Hst) - pg 98
Kilharman League Envoy (Mle) - pg 100
Monk of the Sacred Chain (Msc) - pg 102
Thorned Purifier (Thp) - pg 104

There may be a lot of PrC, some might even say toooooo many, but at least they ALL fit the world and have a real basis within the world they are created for. There is even a section in one of the books where they adapt all the PrC from the 3.0 DMG to fit the SL.

IMO (and this is a big IMO), I think the threshold for having *too* many Prestige Classes is when the writers run out of ideas and the PrC's starting looking like one another. From a game design standpoint, PrC's serve as an excellent tool of taking one of the core classes and specializing that class to fit your setting. The only real limits are the setting and the creativity of the authors.

For me, having the 116+ prestige classes that seem to be here immenantly just gives players more options in tailoring their characters. Some might argue that having this many will cause the upper end of the game to be heavily PrC laden. I personally don't mind this. However, for those who think this is an undesirable outcome to the game, it is relatively straightforward to have the setting curtail the PrCs. Fortunately, even in the players guides, the PrCs are secondary to the rest of the source material so one can enjoy the book even without using the PrCs. It's there for those who want it; for those who don't there are other things to please and delight.

I'm really not sure where that rant came from

[hijack] I'm always surprised how many Oregonians there are on this list[/hijack]

Ni,

No but I did manage to discuss Goreguards with the author so that's how I knew about them. (That and Fangsfall had a write up on them. About a paragraph).

Werner,

Well since they ARE up... While I didn't exactly come up with the ideas for them, Blood Sea Pirate and Brother of the Crimson Temple are mine (proud of both) But what I'm reallly happy with is Gnomish Trapmaster (mine that I developed and came up with on my own.) Mostly caue it's not a halfling class. ;) But I think you'll all like mine. (I hope so! ;) )

Ooops! Terribly sorry about that Grim. Colour me embarrassed! :o

Ahh - thanks for the 3 letter codes too! I haven't seen these for many of the PrCs in the older books - I think I might assign some arbitrarily :) Its actually going pretty good. I'm torn between how to divide these up though. Simple alphabetization? Break them down by where they can be learned (a lot of them are all over Ghelspad and/or Termana) then alphabetize? What would be the most useful? If I do just alphabetization I would include a list of common places the PrC could be learned.

Nightfall - Of course I'll get the next PGs as they hit the stands (my FLGS orders this stuff faster than i could ever hope to get it online) and will update the project as the info becomes available.

Hey guys,

I'm very interested in an index for SL products. However, I wonder if it could be done online?

I'd be intrested in trying to knock up an online program for this, with a bit of help in testing and design (I'm a programmer by trade, although I don't do much work for the internet).

What do you guys think?
Interested?

Duncan

Dunk,

I'd be willing to help with an index of feats and prestige classes. So far don't think we need one for spells JUST yet. (R&R2 did a very decent job of it.)

Holy Bovine, I have a similar compilation of PrC from WotC books and the SL books I possess which contains well over 200, so I can sympathize with your undertaking.

I would suggest an alphabetization: This makes it easy to find a certain class upon demand. Then, you include an appendix with a table which cross references which PrCs belongs to which region, and perhaps the prereq.

By having the X-ref at the end, it is easy to just flip to the end and look up any question
