One of the things I like about 3e as written is that the DM doesn't have to worry about customizing things to the PCs. If they don't like the stuff they find, sell it and buy (or more likely have comissioned) whatever items they like. They get the stuff for their character concept and I don't have to worry about it.

With a low magic campaign, you may have trouble doing the same thing. Talk to your DM, and see if he could have you meet up with a high level wizard to trade in the rapier for a polearm. I don't know if this is doable or not, as I'm not familiar with the campaign.

Otherwise, the above advice is good. Get quickdraw and keep the weapon as a backup for when the bad guys get past your polearm. Or for when you need to overcome DR.

Sortof... I don't really see it the responsability of the DM to give your character all you want (even such basic things like a fitting magical weapon), however, you can always try to get one yourself, which the DM then might make possible or not, depending on various circumstances.

I do agree absolutely, that fun is the highest priority, but if you play in a limited magic campaign, than this is what you get.
