Numbered gaming tokens?

I was wondering if there was a product that was essentially numbered gaming tokens. I often use hordes of the same monster in my games, and I really just need something (plastic / wooden discs?) that has comes in a few different colors, sits on a 1inch or 1/2 inch grid and has a number on it.

Any suggestions?

You can get great medium sized tokens for about 1 cent a piece at just about anywhere. ;) Seriously, pennies make good tokens especially if all you need are colored numbered tokens, just slap some paint on them and draw a number.

I made the ones I use. Just print out a sheet of tokens with numbers on them (with whatever picture you like), glue to some kind of sturdy backing (I use the whiteboard backing used in framed pictures), and then cut them out (with a utility or rotary knife, the latter being my preference).

They turn out great!

Game stores often carry tubes of flat color beads that I've used for this purpose.

Another great thing to do is:
1. find an image of the critters you want
2. copy the image to your hard drive
3. open up MS Paint and crop the head of one of the critter in roughly a square
4. open up MS Powerpoint and paste the head of the critter on a blank page
5. with the image "active" (meaning you've clicked on it) go down to the drawing tool bar and click on the icon "line color" - this will put a black line around the image, making it easier to size and cut out
6. resize the image to be approx. 1" x 1"
7. copy the image and then "paste" as many of the critters as you need!
8. print and cut them out - instant army!

I often use Fiery Dragon's counter sets for this. When I like to get fancy I use spray adhesive and glue the printed page on some tougher card stock, and then cut them out for tougher counters.

I use small poker chips (yellow, white and red work best; writing didn't show up well on the blue ones). I wrote numbers on them in fine-point permanent sharpie.

I took clear glass beads and glued numbers to the bottoms of them. I really use them for identifying stuff (e.g. center of a fog cloud spell effect) more than creature representation. For critters I use the following trick:

Take a sticky pad, the really skinny bookmark ones work best for this. Turn it so that the sticky side is up, write down the buff, creature number, whatever you wanted to track on it, then put the mini on top of the sticky part. All that data should now move with your mini.

I got some wooden discs from wholesale place, 3/4 in (S), 1in (M), 2in (L), 3in (H).

I then made took my images from WOTC site or my fiery dragon counters, made them round (with a black border -- or red for BBEG) in a vector program or paint program (I use Corel Draw), then copy and paste.

I print them up and take a glue stick and put htem on the discs.

It works GREAT! I even take some spray varnish to coat the PC discs for longevity sake. I make lots of skeletons, orcs, trolls, etc.

When I get home I will send you some pics., they work out great. You can buy the wooden discs themselves from a number of places, but I got them from American Woodcrafters Supply Company
