Why would Bathkol need to have escaped his Oath of Binding?

Because 900 years ago a group of adventurers kicked his butt and one of them replaced him (hints in W&R) and his skin is used as an artifact (Arena).

I don't think so... According to the info in ODotF's chapter on the Black Flock, only Colopitiron (Annoxus) isn't one of the original flock... If that's true, then I don't see how Bathkol could have been replaced.

Then again, the same chapter tells us that Barbello has been killed, many times. Never replaced, just killed. The Avatars reform in a day.

So, maybe you can skin an Avatar. A new one will form, but the skin can survive. Bathkol can still be Bathkol, and the Artifact can also exist. He doesn't have to have been replaced...

Buy W&R, read the sections on old bloodhold and the adventure- they should change your mind.

Rereading WW, I have to say that the symbiote section is the most interesting to me. I just have one question of Tom- is hellblot used up during surgery or can it be reused? I love the idea of a family of surgeons using the same drop for generations, always protecting it more than their loved ones.

Obviously not Tom, but I'm pretty sure hellblot is used up in the surgery. However, if you want to alter it in your campaign, that's certainly up to you. I think you're idea is an interesting one.

Hellsblot is not reusable, although if you wanted to have a family of surgeons, something just as valuable as a reusable supply is the knowledge and control of an area where there is a large, but hidden quantity. Almost like a modern day oilfield.

Still going through it, the racial levels, th new prestige races format, complete setting in one book format, and the symbiotes stand out so far.
