Mage Sense (Su): A obliviax, when successfully reading thoughts, can determine the presence and power of arcane spellcasters. This ability acts like detect evil, except that the strength of the aura corresponds to the character's arcane caster level, if any.

Does the arcane ooze (MMIII) have anything similiar, don't have access to my books at the moment.

Then again there may be a creature in MMIV with such an ability, Shade.

Hmmm....<looks it up>...nope. It simply affects any arcane spellcasters within 60 feet, rather than actively searching for one.

Then again there may be a creature in MMIV with such an ability, Shade.

Somewhere between the ogre halfling outrider and the purplespawn puddlepaster, most likely.

to be useful for the obliviax as it wishes, it would need a bit of a modification. how about:

"Magic Sense" (Su): An obliviax, after successfully reading a creature's thoughts, can determine if the creature is a spellcaster. This ability acts like detect evil, except that the strength of the aura corresponds to the character's caster level, if any. This ability also allows an obliviax to determine whether the creature casts arcane or divine spells, and whether or not the caster prepares spells in advance.

now, i don't know if i'm getting too crazy with that, so reel me in if necessary...
