Do you think I haven't read the darn book?

In fact I think you have. Cause you described hobbits. You can't describe hobbits if you haven't read the book.

It was a JOKE... sheesh... some people.

It's only that I get to much people saying "hobbit" in gaming sessions instead of halfling, and they're always surprised if a halfling doesn't behave like them wee bastards from the shire.

I wonder how few PLAYERS actually make that mistake, calling halflings for hobbits...

Enough, in fact, to much.

I warant that it happens on ocassion, at least by those old enough to remember what halflings looked like PRIOR to 3e...

There is nothing prio to 3e, only a system of restrictions and bad excuses of rules, and exceptions to those to circumvent those restrictions after they found out that they're useless.

We now have one reclusive race and one nomadic (gnomes and hobbits, respectively). Whatever they did to halflings in 2e is of no interest to me.

You do know you are talking about the third edition halflings, don't you?

Oh, sorry. I must have got lost again. I always want to the "D&D/d20 System Forums" but land in the "AD&D Veterans and haters of change" forums instead. My fault.

Walking running Octopi breaking land speed records.
Next you have flyinging clams.

Clamso boys Clamso!
Clamso me boys Clamso!

And now we know why settlers forts had points. Injuns knew about doors. But Octopi and Walking clams don't

Let that be a lesson to you!!! ;)

Ok, I've gotten some sleep now... Sorry that I flew off the handle.

I still don't like the little, knee-high to a grasshopper, backstabbing (sneak attacking for those "modern" readers out there), light-fingered rascals. Of any edition.

Halfings, hobbits, kender, gnomes... whatever. Shorties should be seen and sat upon.

Or eaten alive by Octopii monks.

Halflings can't reach the door handles, IMC.

The halfling's only hope would be to have his buddies chop off a few of the legs before it got crushed in a cave-in while chasing them into a mine. But who can picture that?

I just wanted to say that this made me laugh. Thank you.

No problem.

Yea, most hate them because they're so damn annoying, including me. (As a Vhaeraunan I must advocate hate of gnomes and dwarves, naturally, and if the halflings are trampled in the frenzy: good riddance). But that's also a good reason to play the buggers! (I can't wait to play my gnome psion. He'll have his fun - and everyone else the damage. I think fun starts if I use control body on some bloke and make him pee and poo his pants :D )

You know what else is disturbing? The octopus Jet[Ex] ability doesn't say anything about it being limited to underwater movement...

200ft movement backwards as a double movement action. Even if they flee, just turn your back to them, and jet.

Poor halflings don't stand a chance.

I noticed the dire elephants +10 climb check too.

Which means this creature the size of a house can climb up typical dungeon walls with no problem.

Hmmm...
"You walk into a large hall, immense pillars are reaching up in the darkness, supporting an unseen ceiling.
Make a spot-check!.
hmm.....you spot a dire elephant clinging to the pillar next to you.
Oh, it just let go...!"

-rolls for damage as a dire elephant falls on the players-
