But this provides me with a perfect opportunity to ask whether the 'Zargon' in Dragon #315 is the same creature, or something new. (I don't have that issue of Dragon.) Can someone please check?

It's supposed to be the same creature but if I remember correctly it's CR 15 or so. (quite high for an adventure for levels 1-3). I'll check tonight and get back to you.

Yes it's the same creature, but it's grown 20 ft, gained another 10 HD and nearly 200 hp. It's CR is 16 and has a number of spell-like abilities.
