Odd Question about Andromeda on SFC

First Post
Did SFC say that they were airing new episodes of Andromeda? Why is it I can see the episode that airs at 8pm almost a week earlier on my local affiliate?

Yes, I know it's syndicated. Why would SFC grab a syndicated series and air it almost a week after it initially airs? Just seems a bit strange to me, and was wondering if anyone had any insight.

Andromeda was to be cancelled this season (4), Sci-fi stepped in and said they would produced the 5th season and grabbed the rights for syndication at the same time. This means if the show is shown anywhere else Sci-Fi get money but also gets to fill their schedule for as long as they have the rights.

Ahhhh, I see. Makes sense. So the syndication to other channels is just convenient then.

Yes, money in their pockets when you think of the overseas markets. I would also think they are getting something from the DVD sales too.

So, does SFC buying Andromeda mean that Sorbo doesn't get to let his ego run amok quite as much? I used to love this show, but when he took control, it just went down hill so fast.

As I understand it, synidicated shows are frequently contracted for production and broadcast on a full-season basis. Sci Fi probably has rights to synidication of the re-runs, and for Season 5. I expect remaining first-run episodes of season 4 are merely part of old contracts that don't involve Sci Fi at all.

Sci Fi would be re-running the first-run episodes quickly to help establish themselves as the place to look for Andromeda.
