I'm just pissed that they chose to give saving throws to stuff that originally had no save. The above example is just one of many instances where they chose to do this. We can't make it hard on th poor pcs, now. Bah. May as well call it the "Tomb of moderately scary stuff."

That's kinda silly, IMO. Saving throw != "easy." It just means "You have some vague chance of survival."

Frankly, the lack of saves on a lot of abilities is one of the reasons I've never run ToH before now. I don't find it fun to frustrate my players. Challenge them, yes, but not hose them.

My point exactly. Some things just should not have a save.

And those things don't belong in a game where the point is for the players to have fun, unless they agree ahead of time that frustration is the way to go.

Obviously, if players do something monumentally stupid, I become a lot less forgiving. But frankly, the clues in ToH aren't so obvious that missing them qualifies as "monumentally stupid" in my book.

Maybe it's just a difference in play style, but most of the folks I game with would hate a module that killed characters without even a roll of the dice. They're all about risk, and if they die fairly, so be it. But they like their characters, put a lot of work into personalities, backstories, and goals, and not a one of them would appreciate something that killed them "just because."
