OGL monk prestige classes

I find myself a little stuck and so I thought I would ask you guys: What OGL books feature monk prestige classes? Specifically, non-spellcasting, non-psionic monk prestige classes? Are there any such books in particular you would recommend. WotC books won't do - they have to be OGL.

Ideally I am looking for a monk prestige class that features a monkey fighting style.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

Its been a while but Chainmail Bikini's Beyond Monks has an alt martial artist class and a bunch of monk prestige classes.

I think Quintessential Monk from Mongoose has a bunch too.

Both are OGL but the print Beyond Monks one and the Quint monk are both 3.0 I believe.

If it's not magical and not psionic, why does it need to be a Monk PrC?

Have you looked into what you can get through Feats, Prestige Races, Monk class variants, and the like?

Cheers, -- N

Its an assignment/request from a publisher. Monk variants might work if it was the right variant.

My problem was that I thought at first I would have plenty of options but after searching through my books I realized most of the monk PrCs I have are not OGL as they are from WotC.

I've considered quintessential monk. Is it worth it or is it not? I've heard mixed things about the series but the only one I have, IIRC, is the quintessential halfling.

I own it but have not gone through it in depth. I'd rate it fair and I'm sure it has a bunch of prestige classes. The Quintessential series was pretty formulaic for their content structure and I know for sure Quint Wizard (which I thought was pretty good) had a section with at least a half dozen prestige classes.

I read and reviewed Beyond Monks and enjoyed it a lot but my memory of QM was it did a decent job without grabbing me. I was a little past my OGL martial arts interest when I got it as a christmas gift.

Librus Equitis Compiled from ENWold publishing has a monk prestige class as well IIRC, a chaotic renegade monk type who uses a dirty fighting style of combat. I know one of the War of the Burning Sky modules focuses on a monk order but I don't remember if it has a prestige class or if it is a psionic one (the series has a lot of optional psionic stuff).

There's a lot listed in the Monk Database in my sig, but I can't tell you all the ones dealing with "monkey style" fighting.

Dragon #319 (May 2004) has an article "Warriors of the Animal Fist" which details a PrCl called the Shen: it concentrates on animal fighting styles and spell-like and supernatural abilities. One of the styles is Monkey Style.

There are also several articles that contain alternative fighting styles to substitute for or flesh out Monks of any kind.

Thanks. But unfortunately, most of those seem to be WotC, which I can't use as they are not open. Dragon as well, I believe, is not likely to be OGL. Am I wrong on that?

It is ironic that Wizards has made their own books nearly useless to me by not making them OGL, but there you are.

There are a bunch for d20 modern, RPGObjects has Blood and Fists and the Game Mechanics has Martial Arts Mayhem with a bunch of stuff for various martial arts styles.

I looked in Quintessential Monk last night and it has a ton of prestige classes whose names are evocative of different styles. It also has alt monk progressions to swap out different 3.0 monk class abilities to represent different styles. I know Mongoose submitted a ton of their OGC to the OGC Wiki project, I don't know if QM has been put up yet though.

Also check out the OGC variant monk styles in Unearthed Arcana d20srd.org monk fighting styles. for 3.5 class power substitutions.

The Le has more variant 20-level monk base classes in the free Unorthodox Monks

And there is an E.N. Publishing one with 9 variant monk classes based on 9 animal fighting styles Monks of the 9 Animal Clans
