"Old School" Traveller: Best Books?

Another thing I think should be pointed out, is don't be intimidated by the settings, because just like any setting, when you get down to it, you really use less than 5% of what is there. Less than 1% session to session.

So don't get caught up in thinking you have to know everything to run it right. Far from it. If you get interested in it enough to read through it simply because it is good reading, you will likely know more than you will ever need to know to run a good campaign within the setting.

Now I have ran into people who got upset because I forgot a planet had 14 moons, not 12, and I didn't know any of the names. After he was promptly kicked from the game it was all good.

I went back to the used book store the other day and got both "COACC: Close Orbit and Airspace Control Command" and the "Referee's Companion." Plus, I bought a copy of "The Spinward Marches" for Mongoose's The Third Imperium setting.

The Mongoose Traveller book looks very interesting; I'm going to enjoy reading it.

Question: Are the rules for Traveller: 2300 / 2300AD the same as for (or compatible with) Classic Traveller or MegaTraveller? Or does it have its own system?

I'm aware that 2300AD isn't set in the standard Traveller universe, but like I said before, I'm not overly concerned about canon.

I have the book. found it used for $3. I like it. Be warned that almost half the book is nothing but charts. It's the back of the book in a section called 'First Survey'. It's a listing of sectors and system names and world names. The sectors get maps. You may find it really useful, or a waste of paper.

I was able to skim the book, so I was aware of the charts. That section sort of stuck out. The copy the store has is unused but it corners are rough. The rest of it seemed crisp & clean, however.

First Survey is the sixth T4 book. The hardcover version of "Milieu 0" included it as a bonus (plus four extra chapters). I'm just trying to figure out if the hardcover version also includes errata for the original printing.
