Olives

I love olives- all kinds, too.

But last year, I discovered a kind that was larger than most (bigger than large grapes), reddish in hue, and almost buttery in flavor. It was sold at a high-end liquor store near my house called Siegels. (I live in the Dallas/FW area.)

However, they stopped carrying them, ostensibly because they decided it was too expensive to import them any more. I protested- I'd have paid more for them- but there weren't enough others like me.

The problem is this: the person who knew what kind of olives they were no longer works there, meaning I can't search for them by name.

Anyone out there have a clue what kind of olives they are?

Thanks for that link- if they are any from that list, they may be some kind of Cerignola.

I'll check the various olive bars I know.

Please post back if you confirm what these are - I love me some olives, by themselves or stuffed with various happy other comestibles.

My grocery store used to have an "olive bar". I would get a little tub of these big green olives stuffed with a huge sliver of garlic. *drool*

:\ Yuck, I can't stand olives of any sort.

Ditto. Funny thing is I really like cooking with olive oil.

Any luck so far? The grocery store my S/O and I frequent has an olive bar. I may take a look just to be helpful.

Alas, I've been too busy running around with more important tasks than the Great Red Olive Hunt.

However, I was recently informed that the more upscale of the 2 Tom Thumbs in my neigborhood has a new olive bar.

Aaaaaaaand after perusing the newspaper for coupons & ads, it was noticed that Tom Thumb is having a sale on ribeye steaks (my family's favorite kind) and chicken.

I'm currently under orders to retrieve said proteiniferous comestibles tomorrow...perhaps I'll just mosey over to said olive bar and take a look-see. :)
