Omni Database 2- Absorption

Characters seem the way to go with the superlink. The Superlink is like the OGL except in regard to Mutants and Masterminds. There has been a number of PDF companies that have put out books for it and I think all of them have been NPC oriented, least all of them I have seen. NPCs are important for the super hero game as there are really no monster manual for it but once in a while it would be nice to see something a little more in-depth. Reading about super heroes is fine and everything but settings for them and other source books that are not character oriented would be fine too.

Omni Database 2 – Absorption is a new PDF by Clockwork Golem Games. It is the first one of theirs that I have read not written by Peter Ball; Adam Windsor wrote this one. The PDF is a bit longer then their others have been coming in a twenty nine pages in length. There is some art and the lay out is okay but could be a little tighter. It is mostly a black and white product. There is some writing in reed and some blue outlines boxes but that is very minimal. The printing on this book was not bad on my printer at all.

The book presents five new super hero NPCs. Te information is written as if it from a place called Omni Labs. The website of the Clockwork Golem Games has more information on using Omni labs in ones games for free. www.clockworkgolemgames.com

The first character is called Agent 88. She is only power level eight but has an extensive background. Five pages in the book are devoted to her. The character stat block is kept small so most of the pages are used to explain background, personality, how to use in the campaign, her tactics, her powers, etc. Her powers allow her to absorb and emit different types of radiation and to manipulate them in different fashions.

The next character is named Darkmatter and he is power level sixteen. He is brilliant and powerful but has some severe limitations. He does not deal with surprise well and his objectives are extremely far fetched. He is though extremely powerful and can be devastating in combat if he has time to prepare. He is an interesting villain that is both scary and comical at times.

Exchange is the next one and he is another power level eight villain. He, like all the villains here, has the power to absorb many different types of attacks. But his greatest weapon is his ability to taunt and tease his opponents. He always has some verbal taunts for whomever he is fighting.

Fireflow is a power level ten villain and was a former firefighter that now has the power to start fires. He is not really sane and has been in and out of mental institutions and jails for many years. He can do some tremendous amounts of property damage so fights with him will be bad for everything around him.

The final villain is Tungaska. She is a also a power level ten villain. Her name and powers originate with the Tungaska event that happened over Russia in 1908 causing a great explosion and destroying quite a bit if a big forest. She is a villain for hire willing to fight heroes in the day but enjoys a healthy dance and night life in her off hours.

One really nice part of the book is at the end each villain gets a single page with the information scaled down written as a report. These are great player handouts with good factual information on them. One little note for us American that I did notice is for their dates are written day / month / year so do not get confused wondering what the thirtieth month is on one of the characters

This is a nice product with five ready to use villains. This will easily go along with most of the other villains I have seen for the game and these should fit into Freedom City nicely as well. Each character is very well described and the back ground and role playing information of the characters looks like it defiantly took priority over the mechanics of them. The mechanics all look fine and I did not notice any problems in them. This will make a fine addition to the game.
