One Book

Hmm so far I've gotten what I need from the Pathfinder core book, coupled with D&D MM and Pathfinder SRD. I'm using PF stats for some monsters, but quite often I see the monster are very minutely changing (for example the ogre has +1 HP because Toughness feat is improved).

I'm not sure if I like their flavor text or societal changes, for instance Goblins looks very silly now, too cute, and the part of them eating their body weight in flesh in a day means they should all have died now since they don't produce anything but kids.

The +4 dex I kept though, gotta give the little buggers a chance ;)

Another thing I noticed is that horses (and thus, warhorses) have one less HD now, meaning it's even harder to play a mounted fighter since your mount can't take the heat. So in order to play one you must pick Cavalier, Druid or Ranger... yay...

I always prepare to run the game, but I do love to play. I thumbed through the Bestiary today, and pardon my ignorance, but is there enough difference between the 3.5 MMs and the Bestiary to justify the new book?

Thanks for everyone's responses and help!

IMO, the Bestiary is totally worth it. The monsters have been rebalanced for not everyone having stat bump magic items at every X level. While stat bump items are still in the game, they are a necessity and assumed part of the game like 3.x did.

This doesn't make much of a difference at lower levels, but alot more at higher levels.

Hmm well I have given my players +x inherent bonus to their physical stats so that might help will that (and they can eventually get stat boost items as well).

But it doesen't help spellcasters much - did you mean monsters have generally too high saves in 3.5 MM? And thus spellcasters needs the stat boost items?

I thought the save progression was the same in both systems, as well as the price and availability of stat boost items, which means getting them for your spellcasters is a no-brainer and Required.

I definitely appreciate all of the responses and suggestions! While I'd love to GM a PF game, I don't think it will happen in the near future. Since I'm currently GMing a 3.5 game and expect to be for the next few years, does that change any of your recommendations?

Thanks again,
Tam
